man o kent 269
Just picked up a little sxs 16 bore with fixed half and full chokes, and I wondered if you gents thought it would make a suitable woodcock and rough gun? It's nice light and point able. Any thoughts?
alimac 882
If it fits & you can shoot straight with it, it'll be fine. It's all just personal choice
air gun ant 1,666
How much is a box of 16 bore carts? Always fancies one
man o kent 269
I paid £6.20 for a box of 26.5gm number 7s, and bought a box of 28gm number 6s somewhere different for £7.20, but you can't get 16 bore carts everywhere
Jem 0
If you find that you are not shooting as well as you normally do and on the basis that the gun fits you might consider having the chokes opened out to perhaps improved cylinder and a quarter. This might be better for woodcock/rough shooting. If you are experiencing difficulty in obtaining 16 bore cartridges try the Just Cartridges web site.
Tozer 385
What do you gain over a 12? Surely it would be better to alter your cartridge choice?
gonetoearth 5,144
16 bores were allway classed along with 20 bores ladys guns or young gentle mens guns ideal for woodcock and snipe. Easy to handel the only problem with the old english sbs the were usualy tailored to who ever had them made so its a matter if it fits or adapting but. Good sport can be had
man o kent 269
I suppose heavier loads and open chokes compensate for poor shooting. I would have thought a smaller lighter gun would be easier to use in rough/woodland shooting
man o kent 269
Given the current numbers of woodcock round here, I will be leaving them in peace, and hope the species start to recover.
danw 1,748
Nothing better than walking up woodcock with a couple of spaniels and they trusty single barrel .410 having to pick and choose the shot makes it far more sporting to me
