the_stig 6,614
yeah i only ever go in the cheap seats ..........ive watched footie up in the skys at Wembley before that was bad enough......but watching a fight from right up there i dont get that be better watching it on the telly......atmosphere i suppose. i was right at the back for Bruno bugner but I`ve had some good front seats in the past i like the smaller shows i don't like being up the back where theres a good chance someone will be pissing into rolled up programme ... gnasher16 30,597
Get what you pay for......if im not going to hear the punches getting home id rather watch it on telly ............ive said it before and last night was a good example......80k people and the atmosphere was nowhere near as good as 1200 people in the York Hall.

mighty celt 996
Well what a turn up that was.....havent watched it back on telly yet but i think the last thing anyone expected was a tactical stand off with boos ringing round the gaff i thought it was a pretty poor fight really all things considered.............i cant for the life of me understand why Groves wasnt trying to build on the success he had in the first fight he got it totally wrong in my opinion, far too passive, didnt use any angles just stood in front of him......i have to say last nights show was the perfect example for me of just how important getting the best trainer you can is....im always banging on about it but Groves and Kevin Mitchell both came unstuck last night......Kevin is with a good trainer in Tony Simms but he was busy in Froch,s corner and couldnt give Kevin the time he needed and he ended up missing the weight......Jimmy Tibbs would never of taken his eye off him between weigh in and fight yet Kevin was left to his own devices and f****d it up !!...............Then Groves with his attitude of " i only need someone to carry a water bottle ".....i still believe Adam Booth would of made a huge difference in Groves performance, maybe he still wouldnt beat Froch but he would of gone out there with a plan.............it was so obvious Froch was going to fight a cagey fight which was why Groves had to draw him onto mistakes like he did in the first fight but he just had no direction its almost like he didnt really know how to play it.......you have to give yourself the best chance and Groves didnt do that, something he will possibly regret in years to come...............Great performance from Froch he did what he does best and could probably go on years against opponents who are going to make it as easy as Groves did........maybe when i watch it back on telly it will be different but seemed like a very poor performance from Groves. you still think groves is that good, froch took him lightly the first time around and gave groves them free shots in the first round which took froch a while to recover from, froch took his time and did what he said he would give the man some real credit.groves is to hyped up degale was robbed against him, groves has a dodgey chin, and has no stamina, first time he got hit in the first fight with a good shot he was gone, and now ye all no what would have happened if howard webb didnt step in he would have been sparked out like he was last night, one good shot from a decent puncher and groves is gone.groves was so cagey because he new once he got tagged by froch he was in trouble, and he didnt want to work more because he new he would gas,but he talked himself into the biggest payday off his life, and fooled so many people who probly only ever seen him fight against froch thinking he was the next best thing,i just laugh now thinking of the comments put up hear about groves before the fight.
gnasher16 30,597
Yes i do think Groves is that good technically......he totally outboxed and dominated Froch for three quarters of their first fight yet didnt build on that in the second................I could have the most lethal shotgun in the world,if i dont know how to use it i wont do damage with it.......plenty of fighters never reach the potential their talent suggests they can but itscertainly annoying when the thing that holds them back is arrogance. Taggy123 59
Went to the fight saturday night, we were sat a fair way back and watched most of the fighting on the big screens. Was a great day out tho and fantastic aptnasphere. I had groves down to win but fair play to froch sticking to game plan and getting job done.

I thought groves was going to win from like the 1st fight, but suppose when you face a tough+hard hitter like froch , if you don't get it right ,froch will nail you . WILF 48,302
Some lads paid a bottle each and you needed a telescope to see the ring, not for me I am afraid. Some things just don't lend themselves to big venues.......however, this fight was a masterpiece of PR an marketing. Fight of the decade?......Century?......last 30 years? Was it f**k !

I was residing in HMP Winchester when that fight was on and we had no radio in our cell and the fella's next door tried to make it so we could hear there's but all we heard was muffled chearing and the bell ringing ,there sure was a fight atmosphere in the 4 man cell that night
gonetoearth 5,144
Wilf your right in every thing you say the pr and. Clever. Slaging match worked as usual , The public in general are suckers for it lol. Like gnasher sais york hall and the smaller gaffs are better but they dont bring in the ££££££. Even vegas the mgm 15000 , cezars 12000 , the tommy mac 12000 all dont generate the athomphere the brits make the only place ive been that did was the garden. And it was the brits who made that night Fight of the centuruy lol Blag of the century lol
BIG G wheton machine 1,594
I still can't believe the amount of people who'd wrote froch off before the fight,
gnasher16 30,597
The marketting and selling of big fights is no different to it ever was its just the audience has changed......look at the biggest promoters through history Don King,Arum even the Duva,s years ago would all hype a fight up beyond belief........the top promoters here in England never did that as it was a different type of audience back then.... today people go to boxing as a social occasion probably only 5% of that 80k crowd the other night were true fans of boxing but fighters who create controversy are a promoters dream..............i dont buy into myself an interesting match up is what gets my attention which the boxer v slugger scenario always is. All that fight of the century nonsense you take that with a pinch of salt.....you might buy yourself a nice new Transit Van you dont actually believe its the greatest van in the world do you
