Cushty mush 95
Applications are reviewed on basis of information provided by you and can only suggest you submit your variation request, with detailed information, for management to consider. I would suggest it would be a good idea to look at items covered in the DSC1 to ensure you provide proof that you are proficient in all aspects detailed. SportingShooter 0
avon and somerset firearms, from last year they have stopped using the mentoring scheme to gain deer to be added to your certificate. They say they will only grant you deer if you do dsc1.Although other forces don't do this they have put this in place since last summer Would like to see them put that in writing and submit it to court, wouldn't stand a chance. charlie caller 3,654
As I said earlier, dsc1 is NOT required, the police are concerned (and rightly so) with your safety with a firearm, not with your capability to identify, or graloch, or skin a deer, just with safety to the public, go ahead, apply, include permission letters, etc, and see what they say, include in your application, a letter outlining your experience with firearms, not your experience with deer, this is not the issue, you are a competent person, remember that, and make sure they know it. 1 Quote Link to post

They are flexing muscles they don't have, hoping to intimidate shooters into complying. 3 Quote Link to post

Alex - SACS 5
As others have stated, DSC1 is not required. Most forces have or will shortly be following Home Office FL Guidelines 2013 and conditioning for any lawful quarry, which will cover you for deer, humane dispatch, goats, boar and any other species you are lawfully entitled to shoot. In regards to your application for a .243, if you already have an FAC, all you need to demonstrate is good reason (land and suitable quarry) for that calibre and rifle - end of. In response to the previous post and as those of you who know us well, SACS does not, never has and never will limit its licensing support. And we have not stopped the legal support either - as last week's 2 successful SACS cases demonstrate. It just makes more financial sense to fund it ourselves and we are efficient, experienced and competent enough to manage it well. In essence, the Scottish Association for Country Sports is run by members for members with old-fashioned shared values, financial efficiency, no self-interest, no marketing hard sell (so far all by word of mouth). We protect members and all their country sports - not just stalking / shooting. If you are a member, call us if you have a query; we actually like talking to our members. Unfortunately we just don't have time to be on THL often. Too many consultations, member support and political and legal grind to get on with. Remember, the future of country sports in the UK will be fought and won, or lost, in Scotland. They are coming at us from every possible angle - land reform, airgun licensing, national access forum, deer, RSPCA/SSPCA/USPCA, raptors, salmon farming, larsen traps, snaring... Literally every week is a new challenge. If in doubt call us. Helping members is what we do best. New website ready soon. Sorry about delay - my fault - lack of minutes in the day. All good wishes, Alex 1 Quote Link to post

I wanted to join SACS the other week as a licensing issue was starting to crop up relating to security, but I could have sworn I found a copy of your policy somewhere on-line and when I read it the insurance underwriter excluded many licensing issues. If that isn't the case, then again my apologies. I can't find it now and it was several weeks ago so this side of hitting on it by accident, it remains a mystery! I certainly wouldn't have paid to join the BASC if I could have joined SACS for £25!! 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
If you have not already, I suggest you contact him directly, as he will not be on here often, and it might be weeks before your query is answered. 1 Quote Link to post
