Recommended Posts

I popped into a local (large) garden center the other day which also sell livestock, fish the lot really. Anyhow in the freezers they had this 2kg of chicken mince, beef mince, tripe mince ect £4,50 a bag. Says 100% chicken on the bag ??

Is it the prize choice stuff? I don't use meat like that I get mince in 2lb bags from the track and feed it raw with some complete and they also get bones and leftovers etc. Cooking it kind of defeats the object imo but at the end of the day their your dogs and if they look well on it and you can afford it then crack on.

Sorry was having trouble uploading photos onto photo bucket. Any how that's the stuff I'm on about. It actually recommends feeding raw, I just like to cook it like half. But seems okay so far

Can't get my head round why anyone would want to offer minced meat, to start with. My Dogs jaws and teeth mince their meat.

Meat. Bone. Fat. All stuck together. As animals are inside their skins. Bite. Crunch. Rip. Chew. Swallow.

Cooking?!? What on earth's the guiding logic behind That? Ask yeself!

Don't get me wrong, Sweeny. I'm not ranting and raving at ye here. I, for a very short time, bought minced " Dog meat ", from my butchers. They even added herbs, FFS! I used to steam this shit, and it smelt f**king Great!

Then, the penny dropped: WTF Is this shit? Minced pig skin? (This butchers handled whole pigs .....)

What good is eating slurry doing my Dogs teeth? There's nothing to bite. Nothing to push through. Nothing to remove tartar and plaque. Rotten teeth cometh.

And Why the f**k am I cooking this shit?!? :icon_eek: Do Dogs carry matches?

And, that was about it, for me. It was one of those biblical things.

I walked into my new butchers and said; " Sling me a couple of bags of slabs of raw, un f**ked with herbivorous animals bodies, please! ".

He did. And has since. My feed bill is a fraction of yours. My feeding regimen takes a fraction of the time yours does. My Dogs are as healthy as any.

Consider :good:

fine if you have either daily access to bones or a very, very large freezer. 132lb of minced chicken will fit in a small freezer when its in 2lb blocks at a cost of less than 30p per lb. the mince enters the dogs stomach in roughly the same state as it would if the dog was chewing on whole carcass, if you feed meaty bones every other day then it sorts the teeth, if i had access and or the time to source fresh carcass daily i would, but practicality dictates a happy medium

Never fed my dogs raw, they've always looked good and preform fine. I feed gain with fish/meat, I haven't got a massive freezer and don't have the room for one. Hense why I normally just get fresh 750g of lean beef mince for £3 from asda. They get raw knuckle bones from butchers and raw hide chews/pigs ears for there teeth. I appreciate what your saying but it's just not possible for me plus I'm happy with the way things are, if it's not broke don't fix it and all that.

Yes it is very watery, I'll use this bag up and go back to asdas fresh beef mince I think. I can't find it cheaper in any butchers, and also can't find any minced chicken.
