yes mate they will work any cover and they have a great nose

I said it before and I'll say it again, 15 or more years ago there were probably less than 150 wheatens left that could be called working wheaten terriers. BUT the breed was safe due to the hands they were in.

NOW they're as common as muck and after reading that post I'd say the wheaten could be in trouble.

I hope I'm wrong.

But I'll be amazed if I am wrong as in the last few years there's been a few individuals who've churned them out to anyone who'd believe the "legends" and stories and give a large sum for them and an even larger sum if the dog came with a rather dubious piece of paper.

neil .. keepdigging asked a question about them working cover as he doesn't know much about them ..so I gave him a genuine answer ..there is a few idiots with these terriers now and I agree a lot more about than 15yrs ago .

these 2 terriers came to me with no sum of money being handed over .. and they will never be owned by anyone other than me ..

The last few years the wheaten suffered from the puppy peddler, big time.

It went from a little known breed of Irish working terrier to a must have dog.

What worries me about the wheaten is that there's folk taking them on who know nothing about them.

For instance in your photo those two wheatens tied to the gate close together.

But then again maybe the breed is changing in the same way that many other breeds change when they're not bred the way they were originally.

JMHO and again, enjoy your dogs.

ive a wheaten cross and i wouldnt couldnt tie him close to another dog.. you need a bleedin shotgun to part em if they get at each other.

wheatons are well known not to be dog friendly its normally in there nature to fight but I wouldn't keep these if I couldn't trust them to a certain extent .. mine are fine whilst out but I couldn't kennel them together or else I would most likely to end up in a bad situation

Back in the day you could not even tie them near a human being,bar him and the dog were on first name terms with each other LOL.How many lads heard the saying years ago,mind that fellow,or dont go to close to him.I once remember one getting loose and getting in at bonhams,he thoroughly enjoyed himself.
