Best Twist Rate 223 To Go For

Recommended Posts

Hi Mate,

I asked same question a couple of month ago, I ended up going for 1 in 12 twist which can handle upto 55/60 grain perfect for foxing.

I picked rifle up last week and tested 53grain V-Max.

The 1-8 twist is special order only in uk and my local RFD spoke with GMK and said 1-12 is main one used for foxing etc and 1-8 for target shooters.

Please see link below, hope this helps

If ita only a foxing rifle for verminand not a specific range/longrange gun with fancy scopes dialing turrets wind meters laser range finder etc etc there is no big demand for the faster twist rate as you only having it aore the sach of it.

And because its a faster twist the barrel life will be slightly less than per say a 1/12 twist.

I have my 1/12 twist shooting 50g sierras out to 450hitting steel fox size targets

When you have a 1:12 rate barrel its the length of the bullet that causes problems, my 1:12 hate nosler ballistic tips in 55g, it took me an age to find out what the problem was and it was Federal that helped me out and gave me an answer to the problem, dont use nosler BT`s lol
