Personally I see nothing wrong with what the zoo has done. As I have told many people when flying my hawk. "They dont eat beans on toast" The animal had to be put down so why waste it?   TC

What's all the fuss about? It was a cull animal and shock horror got culled..... There was a que of bleeding heart Disney-ites crying to save it and even money offered for it's life and the Zoo did th

. Are you having a giraffe.

Baw, just because some people can rationalise a situation doesn't mean they have no soul. LOL. Do you really think that people like myself don't get the same buzz you do seeing these exotic animals or places? LOL. So, because we get that sense of awe we should ignore sensible stock management and animal husbandry practices and keep them alive regardless?...... "because they're magnificent creatures"........... Isn't that what LACS did/do on their estate with the Red deer?

You say the giraffe is 'special' but that's pretty much where your argument ends? I really don't see how the management of a giraffe herd is any different to any other group of livestock? It's not like they're in short supply.....

If you look at a cow with the same affection as a giraffe then yes, you don't get the same buzz. You say giraffes aren't in short supply, how many have you seen then? As for deer pmsl, we are tripping over them in Scotland so I don't care what anti group thinks on the subject. They are a pest and need eradicated, I really don't see the connection other than trying to make out I think like an anti because I don't want to see an animal like this which is there as an ATTRACTION because of its beauty, destroyed needlessly.

Where has anybody said they look at a cow with the same affection as a giraffe? LOL. That's your assumption mate. Like I said, some people can separate rational thought from emotional thought to a degree.

How many have I seen?............ dozen maybe, but then lets put 'short supply' into perspective seeing as you're being pedantic. The zoos are the sole demand in this case and they have healthy breeding programmes which is sufficient to supply them with what they require.

I wouldn't say deer need 'eradicating' just managing, like any wild or domestic stock of animals.

Zoos provide attraction because they have exotic animals that otherwise most of us would only see on the TV. Their 'beauty' is completely subjective to the owner of the eyes their viewed with. I find a English Partridge beautiful, I'll still shoot them. But I don't judge whether to kill an animal based on my oppinion of it's beauty, that's ridiculous. Instead I base it on a rational argument............ and I'm yet to hear one for how the management of a griraffe herd differs to that of any other livestock?

Baw, I'm not having a go at your oppinion mate, so don't take what I'm saying as a personal attack.

I just took exception to your point of people like myself that see no difference and get no sense of awe or satisfaction at seeing these magnificent creatures in the flesh.

It's a bit like people that say "how can you be a conservationist, enjoy watching cubs and fawns in the summer, but then go out and kill them in the winter?".

Tbh mate, I really can't be arsed trying to defend it  you don't see it as a problem fine, as I said, I can see both sides of the argument. It don't effect me in the cold light of day. I'd prefer if they'd rehomed it, your glad it was destroyed, so be it :) each to there own mate

the difference is the size the giraffe gene pool is greatly reduced this is why they have the complete genetic make up of each giraffe on a database. it was bad stock management on part of the zoo that lead to its death, bred for young baby animal appeal and then culled when that value wore off with age,

Baw, does that mean I win? :D:boogy::yes:

LOL, just f*****g with ya. ;)

And I'm not 'glad it's dead', I just don't have a problem with them killing it, I wouldn't have had a problem with them keeping it alive either.

 so you pretty much don't have an opinion of your own on the subject? Why bother posting as many posts as you have if you don't have an opinion? Why argue against people who do have an opinion on it?
