moxy 617
After various threads and debates as to "what is the quietest silencer", I think it would be interesting to run a test and find out. Involving everyone who wishes to contribute. The idea is as follows; Sub 12ft/lb air rifles only. PCP and springers but I think it would need to be a separate table of results, to take into account of the noise of the action on a springer. (The more results that are contributed then an average can decided). Make and model of rifle and silencer. Pellet brand and calibre and without getting too anal an average of 11.5ft/lb will be used for output. A decibel app would be needed for both iPhone and android phones. Ideally the same app to be used on both O/S or a decided compromise. I have seen decibel ultra for free for the iPhone. But open to suggestions. I'm not yet sure of the required distance from the mic to end of barrel but again until I try this I'm open to suggestions. Perhaps someone has already tried? Obviously a quiet place to test. A test of a ten shot string and results listed along with the rifle and silencer details etc. Different pellet brand tests can be submitted from the same rifle. The results will be worked out into averages and a list made to be pinned in the tech section. If you feel I have missed anything then please feel free to add. I will be testing for starters. Rapid 7 mk1 BSA Superten mk2 AA S410 HW 100 HW35e All of the above in .22 Silencers will be x2 BSA various flavours. Ripley. Standard AA. HW and a vortex. What you all got and what do you think? Which is the quietest silencer? Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
You should ask A&M for a Twink to test as well, sure Adi and Mandy would at least loan you a Mk 2 to test, hell they may even give you one with an external defect (ie anodizing flaw)! 1 Quote Link to post
moxy 617
I'm sure someone will come forward with a twink. Quote Link to post
Buster321c 1,010
We`ve done this on the Rapid forum . Its best to test out side ( as noise bounces like mad indoors ) , approx 1 meter away from the muzzle . Background noise will also be taken into account . I tested my MFR in a small bedroom with phone right next to the muzzle of an unlaoded MFR . Background noise was 43 db and fired it was 76db . This is obviously quieter with a pellet in the breech . To add. Why don't you test the twink? The idea of this is to get those on the forum involved. I know you have a fair collection of plinkers. Quote Link to post

Piss on the parade. I appreciate the variables. But there must be an average that can be settled upon. Surely?
