Should We Carry On Sending Foreign Aid.

Recommended Posts

How we are sending money to India , while they spend £300 MILLION on a space program wants some explaining ..

used to work beside an indian bloke once, once i accidentally put india and third world country in the one sentence-he took it very badly "we are not a 3rd world country,we have a nuclear weapon"lol..supposedly the best education system in the world-but theres so many of them that theres probably 100000 students going for every 1000 places in college.

I firmly believe charity begins at home. Lets sort out the floods, our homeless, our poor before we send any more money abroad.

Spot on! We have food banks FFS! High unemployment, food banks, poverty, homelessness, now the flooding and yet we're sending x amount of billions to every-f***ing-where but here.

What do Somerset get when they're flooded out? £50k off Prince Charles. Wow...

I'm sure we sent our entire Navy to help out in the Philippines when that went under water, and other natural disasters we're more than happy to sanction x amount of £, x amount of supplies and half the frigging forces to help out half the world away. A disaster on our doorstep gets nothing.

Charity always begins at home!!

I'd like to hear the real effects of cutting aid, not the official line, the real 'behind closed doors' reasons. If it's not economical then I'd cut it to a level it is.

The amount needs capping at the very least rather than having it as a % of our GDP. Even with our improving economy we really can't justify increasing aid proportionally and are just making a rod for our own backs.

foreign aid is really an effort to influence foreign policy. the USAs ability to do just about what they want in pakistan for example, and the interim agreement to halt uranium enrichment in iran, these and manyh other policies are not negotiated, they are bought and paid for. now the fact is that the UK government still has a misguided idea that we are still a major player on the world stage, and that our "aid" packages will influence foreign governments. i dont think they seriously believe they can change political outlook in other countries but rather that they can tie down trade agreements. how naive, and misguided. firstly, do they think that the money we can offer is able to compete in any way with usa/russia/germany, and get us better deals than they get? or that say nigeria or malaysia will remember the money we gave them year after year when china come knocking with a big fat cheque book?

i think our government (and previous governments) believes we still have a role to play in world politics, but lets be hionest we struggle to keep our head above water in the EU, let alone taking on the rest of the world

time the foreign aid stopped

Why are they allowed to get away with such obvious shit choices. They work for us? Probably sending money abroad and have relatives owning shares in companies which the other countries will spend the foreign aid money on. These people aren't stupid and money currupts and makes people loose their morals. I can't imagine anyone who would say keep sending money abroad and not help our own.

With a sizeable part of Southern Britain flooded, and still being in recession should foreign aid be stopped till this Country gets back on its feet.

After all talk about closing the stable door after the horse has bolted, Mr Pickles on the Andrew Marr show today, said money would be put up to start dredging all affected rivers and streams on the flood plain.

I thought the main reason dredging had stopped, was to save money.

Having worked in Angola for the past few years, seeing the wealth they have, and the poverty I would say we should stop.

You can see a guy going up the middle of the road with no legs, and a guy swerving around him in his X6 BMW !

I believe their president is, if not THE, he is one of the largest land owners in Brazil!

I was speaking to a local guy to us there on Friday, His wife is Philapino, and they were visiting her family over Christmas. The only thing they got for 'aid' during the floods etc was 1kg of rice! He said their government 'gave' the 'aid' to neighbouring countries as it was upsetting their economy.

We regularly get bags of 'rags' at work which are alleged to be from the 'charitable' donations that are made. Many new stuff with labels etc still attached, bagged up and sold as rags.

Surely we need it ourselves 1st.
