wilbur foxhound 480
we went out today, to hunt a wood on a hill, as there was a slight dusting of snow throughout the night. Things were looking good as it usually draws foxes from the hill into the wood. So off we set, the guns got into position, then up I went with the hounds and into the wood. It was not long before we heard hounds giving tongue. They were going really well, then struggled as scent was not great in places. This went on for a couple of hours, then some older hounds got on a bit of a drag, worked it out and got going really good then I heard 3 shots, then over the radio came a message fox down then drew the wood once more but one dog fox was the total although it was only one fox, it was good as this farmer loses lambs in the spring time. Iv tried to upload photos of the land we hunt, one is of our future huntsman , if he can stand the pace lol 7 Quote Link to post
esoxluscious 44
great post wilbur, are you only allowed two hounds like england/wales? and are the guns positioned on experience i.e you have a rough idea were the fox will run? reason i ask is when out with the hawks on a sunday and we are down round the border we usually here/see what i presume are private packs and it looks like a good days sport, you must be a fit man keeping up with them on foot! neil cooney 10,416
Esox, if your talking about the Irish border then there's a good chance the hounds you hear are the packs kept by local lads usually to hunt hare but some are kept to hunt fox. Each lad keeps a hound or two and on a Sunday a group of lads get together for a hunt. It's very popular around the border counties and the laws are different to the hunting and fox control that Wilbur just gave us a report on. Around the Irish border the hounds are usually stopped before they come to terms with the hare. Nice pics Wilbur and looks like the best of country for a view. Quote Link to post
