TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi Got a really cheap hw77-k (1987/8) which needed a good sorting out it was a rough as a bears backside pitting metalwork and run down stock.it shot but poorly.anyway I set about stripping it to find out a bit more. There was more grease and gunk embedded all over it inside and out then an engine bay I set about degreasing and polishing it back to bare metal removing the pitting and rust.after several hours it came up as I wanted it to I stripped the stock and had it back to a smooth finish then gave it 3 coats of Jacobean dark oak stain, Final coat I then re blued it using bisley blue and it went on a treat after at least 30 servings I was happy with the finish After the internals arrived, spring and all seals I rebuilt it and it fired spot on and its very smooth and no twang or recoil issues. It was a pleasure hassle free job.and polishing the internals is a sure way to get a good consistent smooth firing air rifle. Atb 223 Edited February 8, 2014 by TWOTWOTHREE 11 Quote Link to post

Plummerterrier 291
Looking to get a second hand rifle this week and the fact the stocks not upto much is putting me off, but seeIng this makes the gun look 100% better and worth doing Edited February 9, 2014 by Plummerterrier Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
Now that looks stunning, congrats Twotwothree, you should be proud! One question, did you sand down the stock between each coat of stain? If so did you use 0000 grade wire wool? Phil Edited February 9, 2014 by Mawders 2 Quote Link to post
TWOTWOTHREE 152
Hi No I didn't sand the stock down between staining coats it was super smooth before hand.just finished it with some bees wax. Only time I used wire wool was between bluing coats, thanks for the comments from all above.it looks impossible to begin with but it is worth the end result.
