bill88 6
Since i put the dogs on 100% raw i've been worming them every 8weeks,and the pup every 4.Vet reckons they should all be wormed monthly (yes i know she sells the wormers to me).Thing that bothers me is this, are the wormers harming the dogs? i put them on raw because i thought it would benefit them,ie no chemicals from dry or tinned food, but if i'm pumping them full of wormers am i kind defeating the object.? Guest SJM
I would say you are doing them too often I do mine every 3 or 4 months not just because they eat a diet rich in raw meat and rabbits/hares but because they are typical dirty wee scavengers who will eat rabbit and sheep droppings when were out on a walk, as well as any bits and bobs of dead things they can grab when they think Im not looking I think its important not to overdo wormers, I would say if you are feeding a dry diet and your dogs arent eating a lot of other animal faeces then once every 6 months should suffice, 3 times a year if they are on raw food and have a tendency to eat anything they see

Guest SJM
Forgot to say after reading waz post, I do my adults every 3-4 months but pups are a different story, I do them at 2 4 6 8 and then 12 weeks to try and get rid of as much of the roundworm burden as possible. You can worm the bitch during pregnancy to try to kill off the larvae before they reach the pups through the placenta, but I am not a big fan of giving a pregnant bitch any kind of medication unless its really necessary so I just wait til she has had the pups then worm her, and then do the pups once they are starting to eat solids, there is always worms comes out of them on the first and second wormings, I think the cycle is something like 14 days so the second worming catches the ones that have hatched out from any eggs left, but there is never usually any on the subsequent wormings, but I do them to be on the safe side, worms can hinder a pups growth if not kept in check

bill88 6
Thanks for the link,i'll have a look.I use milbemax on my dogs, and they work out about £2.00 a piece. As everyone is saying,i used to worm the dogs every 3/4 months, and the pups monthly from 3/12 months.Like sjm said,my dogs are dirty b******s as well,if they go ratting, they all chow down on the catch  and the same with stuff they find, and i can assure you all my dogs are well fed, there just plain dirty, when it comes to crusty rabbits and stuff.

SNAP SHOT 194
I feed raw bill inc a lot of tripe and i worm every 3 months and ive never known my dogs to have had worms, obviously you dont always see them but in 18yrs ive never seen one! Pups i do at 2 4 6 8 and 12 weeks, then every 3months,i use panacur liqiud 10% pups should be wormed like this, as worms can lead to protein loss, the life cycle of worms is 21 days...
