Outlaw Pete 2,224
sounds to me that you could do as much as you wanted in that room and still not be finished, but what i would try for starters is a small vent at either end of the room high up near the roof ..... Pretty much what I'm figuring to do, Beast. I believe vents are supposed to be one up, one down? Anyway, I'll put one in the fire place. And I have a bit of work to do above the window too. The area above, and conforming to, the wide sill is hardboarded over. Only, there's now a gap along the windows edge ~ I guess where they fitted the new double glazing? Anyway; I want to rip out that old bit of hardboard (thus getting an avalanche of rotten, old thatch in my face! ) and that should create a sort of natural cavity and air space up there. There's the run of expanding foam, along the top of the window. I can drill some 8mm holes through that, to let air in / out. Then, replace the hardboard with a nice bit of ply. Complete with mesh screened air vent Sounds like a plan, to me! Meantime, yes, I'm leaving the door ajar. I'm convinced it's already improving in there too. That room's now, effectively, becoming part of the greater whole. My kitchen's not cold or damp. Nor will that room be, now it's sharing air with the kitchen. Anyway, I have all summer to monitor the place. This is an awfully long term project. I'll have to spend a couple ton on lighting for the bloody place yet. Birds will need full spectrum lights, on special dimmers. Christ! It might almost be as well to rip the f**king tin off above that room and install a f**king great sealed unit! Only nigger in That wood pile is that it's a south facing roof. Shadowed out by a west facing pitch, to the east side. It'd only get the sun in the afternoon. Never mind. Press on and get through it all? This time, next year, I should have my own canaries on their starting blocks and ready for the breeding season! Can't f**king wait! Outlaw Pete 2,224
If I were you Pete, I'd invest in a tiled roof and wall vents, its a bit of coin to lay out, but it will solve all your problems, and see you out Stealths; Sorry, mate. Seem to have missed this one. Just found it now, coming in here looking for another thing. Tiled roofs?! " Bit of coin "?!? F**k me, mate; I ain't got That sort of money left out of my pension!!! And the f**king tin that's up there right now will see me out, don't you worry!

Outlaw Pete 2,224
Price I pay for where and how I live, Stigger Believe me, mate; I may mention some frustrating issue. Some expense. Or the simple impracticality of my getting my hands on that which the rest of you may take for granted? So be it. Just Always know that it's never, Ever, in any way shape or form a complaint! I love the living F**k out of where, and how, I live. All this 'Can't get to where I can't walk. Can't have what I can't carry back, on my back.' bollocks just makes my life richer. If that makes sense? Work it out, man. How happy can I be? I've got that 'moat' I always dreamed of
