Building Renovation ....?

Recommended Posts

Jack; Believe me, mate; It has occurred to me, after all this, that maybe it would be easier just to chuck the f**king things down in the old cow shed.

But then; I'd have to be replacing the entire roof over them. They'd be wide open to pine martens. There'd be some hellish winds coming through there. And, most of all ....?

Who the hell would want to have to trundle fifty yards, to visit ones birds. Across open ground. In any weather. To stand in a f**king stable. When they could just get up, put the kettle on, and look in at their birds :)

75% of my ringing activity goes on right outside my back door too. So, I'd be in the perfect position to simply wander back and forth between watching the birds.

FFS. I'm no longer young, nor dynamic, Jack. In fact, I'm decidedly at that point in life where " Pottering " suits me fine!

The lack of ventilation and a tin roof will cause you your damp issues, as GTE said... It's a shame your not in this country mate, I've got a fair bit of kingspan composite panles and. -120mm boards

Line it out pete with 3 x 2 Celotex the centres and a insulated backed plaster board over the top. Use tanilised timber. Then skim your plaster board Dry it out Paint it white.   Bobs ya uncle.

Pete, just go and either buy or build a decent shed to fit out for your canaries mate, it will be cheaper, atb, WM

get a job

if pete could drive i`m sure he`d be pottering about a couple of days a week doing a bit of scrap .
7 days a week skip hire actually ;)

so it it proves some people dont really know what other people do ;)

sounds to me that you could do as much as you wanted in that room and still not be finished, but what i would try for starters is a small vent at either end of the room high up near the roof, and either leave the door open into your warm rooms to take some heat in there, or put some sort of heating in there. hopefully this would solve the damp problem enough without resorting to major work (and major expense). worth a try!

No worries Pete, I gave a fair bit to a farmer a while back... Problem for us is it's all cut to order.. I get t back the yard but half the time that's where it stays, as no 2 roofs are exactly the same... They can be cut to suit though.

A mates done well out of it, his kennels are fully insulated and look the bee knees lol..
