Outlaw Pete 2,224
Jack; Believe me, mate; It has occurred to me, after all this, that maybe it would be easier just to chuck the f**king things down in the old cow shed. But then; I'd have to be replacing the entire roof over them. They'd be wide open to pine martens. There'd be some hellish winds coming through there. And, most of all ....? Who the hell would want to have to trundle fifty yards, to visit ones birds. Across open ground. In any weather. To stand in a f**king stable. When they could just get up, put the kettle on, and look in at their birds 75% of my ringing activity goes on right outside my back door too. So, I'd be in the perfect position to simply wander back and forth between watching the birds. FFS. I'm no longer young, nor dynamic, Jack. In fact, I'm decidedly at that point in life where " Pottering " suits me fine!

beast 1,884
sounds to me that you could do as much as you wanted in that room and still not be finished, but what i would try for starters is a small vent at either end of the room high up near the roof, and either leave the door open into your warm rooms to take some heat in there, or put some sort of heating in there. hopefully this would solve the damp problem enough without resorting to major work (and major expense). worth a try!
