Tornado1979 145
Took my new Rifle to Carton Moor Shooting Range to set it up this afternoon, arrived with just one box Hornady superformance 53gr, the team working there were very helpful and when I told him the Rifle was new he said it would need bedding in, he then talked me through process and started assisting me. He started off by running a rod with copper remover on a patch through the barrel, and then a clean patch until clear, he then asked me to fire one bullet through and repeated this process for 3 shots, he then asked me to fire 3 shots back to back and then repeated the cleaning process four times. The last 5 bullets were to get the zero sorted. He said if the above wasnt completed the barrel would of burned out faster, how come the RFD didnt provide me with info if it was that important and It was mentioned it user manual ?!?! zx10mike 137
many rfd are lacking in knowledge and don't offer much good advice.when you spend good money on a custom barrel you soon learn.that said many don't bother and there rifles are spot on.border barrels recomend soaking overnight in bore foam after the first shot..... 1 Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Told you Mike was a good egg! Personally I think it is a load of crap, all this running in business, I have an aquaintance who happens to be a gunsmith in Montana, and a very good and knowledgeable one at that, he says it is rubbish, and you should just get on with shooting them, after all it has had several shots through it, at the factory and the proof house, without all this pratting about, but each to his own, glad you got sorted mate. It's a good set up mate, I wasn't 100% sure but suppose it won't of done any damage. I was just gutted I didn't take more ammo after driving all that way. He advised zeroing in at 1" over @ 100 yards so set up for zero at 200. Looking forward to getting out now. Quote Link to post

Deker 3,478
Breaking in new rifles (barrels) is never going to do any harm and potentially can only do good, so always worth it, I even break in my .22lr! Lots of information on forums/web about methods. ATB! Quote Link to post
Tornado1979 145
Thanks Deker Quote Link to post
