Huan72 687
Does the front door open on to the street or is there a front garden? Depending on this will depend on what could happen, I assume this is the first time the dog has bitten anyone? Was the blokes skin broken? If it happened in the garden it is possible that legislation called The Dogs Act 1871 could be used, which allows the council or police to ask the courts for a dog control order to be put in place and this would stipulate conditions that the owner would need to follow such as keeping the dog on a lead when in public etc. If on the street then The Dangerous Dogs Act could apply as the dog was allegedly dangerously out of control in a public place. If this is a one off the chances are that you may be visited and offered advice by the council and/or police or your in laws may be asked to enter into a voluntary dog behaviour contract which is were the owners and the police or council agree on measures, designed to stop it happening again such as dog on a lead etc. Not much chance, if any of a dog being PTS for a minor bite in those circumstances. Just my opinion
Chid 6,582
Beware of the dog signs are admitting liability , How's that? Surely if the sign is there and he enters he does so at his own risk? Same sort of thing as slipping on a wet floor if there's a sign there it's your own fault for not being careful beware of the dog signs mean you know your dog might bite, a dog what bites or gaurds has to be accompanied at all times by a compotent handler or locked up so it cant get to people ...

baw 4,360
Beware of the dog signs are admitting liability , It's the same with horses mate. If your out riding a young horse with a bib on saying young horse, slow down..... Your effectively admitting liability for any incident that occurs no matter the circumstances because your saying your horse isn't experienced enough to cope with the situation. Outlaw Pete 2,224
Lose the sign ...... It's admission of liability. Exactly. It effectively states; " Watch out for my Dog. I Know It To Be a treacherous f**ker; That's why I've thought I'd better put this sign up, to warn you. " Only sign to have is: " KEEP OUT! "
Gaj1612 99
Thanks for the replies, the guy has been back and said he doesn't want to take it any further but asked for the dog to be chained up so that it doesn't happen again. It's the first time the dog has done this so I should imagine they will keep a chain on him from now on.
