sussex 5,777
Having had a call from the estate manager last night telling me there were deer all around the new seat I'd put up , & having seen the weather forecast I decided to have an early morning look to see if any were still about .Although dry at the time of leaving , 6.15am , by the time I arrived at the estate 15min later it was spitting , by the time I had walked round to the seat it was pis..n...sitting in the semi dark waiting for some light i was gratefull to my Swedish mate Per for the thin fold up insulated pad i was sitting on , just about keeping my arse of the wet seat .Twenty min later & just about light with the rain pouring down a lone doe picked her way down through the woodland 70ish m away , i flicked the cover of the scope , put the dot on the spot & she collapsed , she only twitched a couple of times before she lay motionless ..then a strange thing happened ....it stopped raining ....I decided to stay in the seat for another hour , during which time I see a couple more , but non offered a sensible shot .Calling it a morning I set about gralloching the doe , nice clean animal in good condition she was loaded up only needing a wash out , a tag & a hook to go in the chiller at 62lb ..Now bright & dry i spent another hour with the pole saw clearing some over hanging branches & scrub that will give a better sight line for the future .. 4 Quote Link to post
Sussex Stalker 7
Well done, bet your glad you took the opportunity to get out. The met office have just issued a servere weather warning for the south east, so more rain and high winds to come. Kev Quote Link to post

sussex 5,777
Hi Steve , the winch /gambrel comes from the states , it was about £14...Their are firms selling them over here now , I would think google could come up with the info , or chances are someone on THL will , The gambrel isn't the one that comes with it , that's just a spare one I keep on the quad . ..Ps ..they come in two sizes that is the small one ..
