Buy cheap, buy twice! You won't go wrong with a HW, AA or BSA springer in the second hand market. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Mawders you can go wrong with a BSA springer, the Lightning shears it's stock bolts regularly and has a myriad of other problems that see owners getting rid of the damned things! Best to buy an HW instead, better trigger, better built and similar money! Edited February 6, 2014 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
Mawders 595
The BSA super sport and the BSA Superstar I had were both superb first class springers! Not a single problem with either and owned both for many years. Look at his budget, that's why I stipulated the second hand market for an old gun. You must be talking about brand new BSA's I assume. I have not had any dealings with new BSA's as I like to think I've 'moved' on from that stage. Mawders Quote Link to post
twymanc 135
i have a new bsa lightning se and it will match my falcon prairie cs shot for shot with no power curve but obv recoil but cant put them down for a springer!!!! Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Mawders you did not specify old, you said secondhand, there are a lot of newer "BSA" spring powereds being moved on the secondhand market as people realise they have paid over the price of an HW99 for a poorly built piece of parts! Mawders 595
Mole, I think your choosing to split hairs, every rifle whether it be an AA, HW or other have Friday jobs or batches. I've had or seen some appealing examples from 'new' from both the top spring rifle manufacturers. I'm sure not all BSA springers are poorly built pieces of parts. I see a lot of people on here showing pics of their lightnings or super sports etc. Quote Link to post

The Lightning is rumoured to be so called because it does not strike in the same place twice. A similar amount of money will see the OP with an HW 99, which is twice the rifle the modern Lightning is, even if it does have the easily sorted galling problem that the 99s were cursed with for a while! The words to look for on a Lightning are Made in England! Edited February 7, 2014 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
For all you Lightning lovers.... http://www.airgunforum.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/174839-Help-with-bsa-xl Then you find more with the same problem on the thread, which is why I will not recommend a BSA Lightning!
