Matt Smith 143
And it was fecking shite! I think that just about sums it up! I went to the small seperate field 1st and had a wonder around and spotted a rabbit on the walk back to the car. I had a decent stalk on it and got to about 30 yards and went prone. Lined it up between its eye and ear and took the shot, I didn’t give it enough hold over for the wind and actually saw the pellet fly just behind the back of its head and over its back, it was that fecking close! The thing went off like the clappers! Bollocks! As it was early days I decided to drive along to the big fields. I park up walk down the dip and start making my way up the hill and spot some eye’s right at the top on the right side of the hedge so moved back over to the left and walked up the left hand side until the big break where the 3 fields meet then just shuffled over to the right hand side and the Deer was just sat in the hedge line, dopy git. I lay in the grass and watched it watching the world go by for about 5 minutes, It was just lay down in the hedge line. Absolutely beautiful creatures. Mac, Daz and myself saw 7 in the same spot a few weeks back. I decided to have a scout around the top field past the rough ground that I never have a look at, as I get through tree line I spot a rabbit on my right just in the rough maybe 60yards away, it took me about 5 minutes to stalk it as there are loads of fallen branches from the trees but ended up getting way too close and spooked the b*****d. I paced it and I was within 20 yards FFS, Judging distances in the dark is killing me! Double Bollocks! Off I trot now with my tail well and truly between my legs I work my way back up to the normal areas. I spot a rabbit up the left hand side of a hedge row where I know there’s a gap further up nearer to it, so move over to the right side of the hedge line and start moving slowly forward and make my way to the gap, I scan from right to left, left to right and can’t spot it, the wind was coming across my body from behind so I’m thinking it’s picked up my scent and done one. I get my torch out, turn it on and it’s less than 10 feet in front of me! You’ve never seen a rabbit shit itself so much, woosh it’s gone! It must have been just outside the peripheral vision of the scope. Triple Bollocks! I walked back to the car and went home. 1 Quote Link to post
