I made up some from 10m/m solid aluminium bar they seem to work good ,

Cost worked out to be 2 dollars each Aus, dunno about uk pounds

Would be interesting if someone could weight a fiberglass one to compare,

As that was my only concern that they could be heavier

Have just weighed a 900m/m long solid one 200g

My father had a heap of 6 metre lengths of 10mm stainless pipe, around 1mm tHick. I cut it into 1 metre lengths, flattened one end with hammer and anvil, cut the flattened end into a point with angle grinder (v shape), then bought gromets and end caps from china. These are really light and ridiculously strong.

Only fault with aluminium is when it gets bent it will stay bent until you actualy straighten it, grp will bend then go back to shape itself. I would think you would probably bend them pushing them in. I bought some grp from all proper up on the net, cut and point myself. A junior hack saw is good for cutting them.
