My mentor used to brred them, male harris and female red.

By all accounts they were cracking birds and followed on just like harris hawks, ive got a picture of a male somewhere give me 10 mins and i will try find it out

When my mentor bred them. The male had to be removed as soon as copulation happened. They were then brough up by the female alone. The chicks were taken at 18week old with some having more harris like looks wheras other took more after the red. Although all had the redtail crest on their heads. They were great hunters by all accounts but yook a little more effort to get going than a harris. But they followed on just like a harris.

Why cross? What are both species lacking that a cross is needed?

He's a mates bird and flew and entered at 1.13 .i wouldn't own one myself I would rather fly a gos for the money there charging for these.

Finally found them. Looks more redtail than the one above i think. I saw the female out of this clutch aswell and she looked just like a normal redtail.

 

 

 

although they werent as full in the body as redtails are

I have to admit I have always wanted to fly one. If pushed I cant see how they could be better than a pure harris (never hunted reds so cant comment) but would still love to hunt one. Unfortunately they are going for what I consider to be silly money and therefore I haven't had the chance.

There would have to be proven advantages of a cross before I'd want to try flying one, the cost of any bird of prey isn't important. For example they often cost less than many well bred dogs.

what are the percieved bonuses of this cross..... the aggression and higher flying weights associated with a redtail coupled with the better response of a harris or is it just a money making schemme?
