FERRETBOY 680
This spring I would like to breed from my old bitch fly but im not sure what dogs are available and worth breeding from. Shes a good honest bitch that has took everything but somethings doubled up. She would always be the better dog if slipped double up , its in her nature to better any dog she ran with. Shes 24.5"tts Dam whippet x greyhound sire deerhound collie x whippet greyhound Good points Great strike Enough stamina for a good nights lamping 42 rabbits up the dales was her best score. Steady dog to ferret with. Did ok daytime. Good at tracking deer Her only major fault was her bad feet, three toes have been removed. She would need doubling up on a retrieved fox as well. So anyone got a stud dog available and what would you recommend? Im hoping for an all rounder. thanks rew Quote Link to post

Hot Meat 3,109
no offence pal but why breed off a bitch with bad feet? by sounds of it she is your average bitch, no better no worse than a lot.. so why not try and source a pup out of a bitch than can do same, but got better feet? i think too many folk breed with sentimentality in mind rather than whats actualy best.. not a dig in any way so please dont take it as so, youll be left with a litter to rehome and a good chunk of time and money will be gone, far easier to buy in imo.. i keep getting pestered off mates to breed but till i can honestly justify it to meself it wont happen, i used to believe some breedings will improve your stock, but now if it needs improving, your probs best getting better to start with, if that makes sense?? like i said it not a dig, just a thought... 12 Quote Link to post

mattyg 1,862
I know a fella whom has a dog that would compliment her..... Infact I was out with him today. The dog lacks nothing as far as nose and drive go and I'm pretty sure he has never had a major problem health wise.....plus...... I'd love a pup off his dog! And your bitch sounds nice! Cheers, matt P.s. he is also on here! Quote Link to post

FERRETBOY 680
If it bettered any dog it ran with im surprised suitable stud owners are not knocking your door down??. Only been out with a few people in my time to be honest but she never failed to give everything when running and that is best seen coursing against other lurchers of similar sighthound blood. If she didn't catch on the day doubled up then none of them did but if we did catch something it was usually her that stopped the chase. Im not going to say she was the greatest dog on the planet but I think her injuries occurred because she wasn't half hearted, she did damage her first toe running over a train line and then others followed with the added pressure. She's loved to carry things as well and will retrieve from water and under water. Quote Link to post

FERRETBOY 680
thanks only if she had her sisters feet but I cant not agree with those comments and It has made me think differently already. Just got back from lamping with brother in laws dogs. Its his first season lamping and hes running a 3/4 grey 1/4saluki and I was truly impressed with her stamina . We had to bike 5 mile, lamped a few big rabbits on long slips, put one in the bag and had to cycle back 5 mile but this bitch wasn't even slowing down. The best thing is she wasn't bred from workers either. Just typical. Quote Link to post
