Outlaw Pete 2,224
Okay. So, I put this up on a couple of bird forums today. Bit of fun Just occurred to me that not all of you who pop in here will necessarily visit full on, dedicated bird fora. So, for the craic, here's a copy / paste job: " The Structure " Doing my bloody head right in, this is ....! Background situation, see, is that I only go into town one day a week. And town is a very long way down the road. And it's right at the end of the road where I've spotted The Structure. There's three properties, all side by side with eachother, down there. The furthest one is now owned by a woman with children ~ though, how old they are I've no idea. And behind her house, in common with the others, she has what must amount to a third of an acre. They haven't been there that long. The place was empty for years and in a declining state. Her dad bought it and had it done up for her. What was a jungle was razed and, first of all, she had a couple of ponies on it. I guess picking up pony and trap soon faded. Then, it became lawned. Yes. Ye see? I do pay attention. People do, round here. Because there's not a lot else going on in our lives. Spying on ye neighbours is a pass time in itself Anyway, obviously, bowling down the road in a taxi, things flash by. Ye barely get a second to take anything in. But, in that second, I spotted The Structure! It wasn't there before. It's on her vast lawn. Set with its back to the boundary hedge. It's pretty long and has a shed like bit at this end. That's the fleetingly glimpsed impression I got, the first time I saw it. I was distracted on the return trip and, anyway, on the wrong side. If I'd looked I'd have just seen Tommy Bierns' left ear hole. Nothing wrong with Tom's ears, of course. They just don't excite me like The Structure! So, there I was. Back here. Tantalised. Not a lot to do, in my sad and empty existence, but sit here, twiddling my thumbs and wondering. It made for a long week! Steve came and got me, next 'Town Day'. By now, I was pumped. No way was I missing a good look at that thing. I primed Steve to take it easy when we got to that end of the road. In fact, as it is, he stopped. Right there, outside her house. We sat and stared ~ like a right couple of Structure Stalkers. It was the sweetest torment! We sat. We stared. We squinted and craned. Murder! It definitely has a shed sort of affair, at this end. Then, it runs away from that like a sort of roofed veranda. Get what I'm saying? So, there's strong, upright timbers supporting the lip of the roof. 'Inside' though is the tasty bit! We're looking from a very sideways on angle. Between the house and the hedge, see? So we can't get any sort of face on look. But, ye can clearly see that there's an evenly spaced run of much lighter upright timbers, about three foot back. And, they look about three or four foot apart! See what I'm saying? Juices flowing? They look like Flights! Could the overhang be a covered walkway to view these 'flights'? Might the plan be to wire that in, making a run through security cage? Dunno. We couldn't even tell, at that distance, if there was any wire on those 'flights'. Then we moved. Before the Gards turned up! Steve said he had a pair of binoculars in the boot. (I wonder about him, sometimes!) We could try those on the homeward run. But, then, he was away from his phone when I tried to call him. So, I got Gary instead. Gary reckons it's an aviary. Don't know how good his eyes are. Have to call Steve again, next week. Get his binoculars out. Point is; What if it is an aviary? And she gets Canaries ....! I'd actually (get to) know another person, within my extremely limited striking distance, interested in canaries! Oh, and I know what ye thinking; " Just knock the bloody door and ask! ". Yeah, but; This is Leitrim. Nothing what so ever happens here. We have to take our entertainments as we find them This could prove to be the high light of my entire year. I'm gonna milk the delicious suspense for all it's worth!
Malt 379
She's building a cage to lock all the local nosey b*****ds up in! Sooner or later curiosity will get the better of you an you'll pop in for a closer look. One step inside it and 'slam!' Then she'll sit in a deck chair outside to watch you all day to see how you like it! Your place sounds very similar to mine Pete, f**k all happens without it being noticed!
