jigsaw 11,863
well a bloke off here came over a few months ago, him, his wife and 2 kids,3 months later they returned back to britain, refused any support from the government,he almost ran out of money.you DO NOT get automatic dole any more.I believe you have to be in the country for a certain period of time before it kicks in and looking for work.its to stop wellfare tourism .

Chid 6,493
Is it also true you get 100 odd euro per week dole money? On the radio there was a wee story about a man who claimed the dole , he was getting 200 euro a week he claimed for about 6 weeks before getting a 50000 e a year job ,told the dole , the next week there was dole money in his account so he rang them and they told him the dole was calculated yearly so he was entitled to that money till his year was up even though he was earning good money .... Wullz 408
I am going over to see my mates a week on friday, they are getting seriously bummed over there, paying more for everything and getting taxed up the wazoo...its so expensive. We used to eat out all the time, not any more!! We stock up with steaks and groceries at the asda in Larne and take that down as our contribution towards keep for the weekend.... jigsaw 11,863
all I can say is god bless Aldis and Lidl, they have booted the major irish shops into reality,we can now buy decent food at realistic prices.you can now get a good weeks food for under the 100 euro mark, but you need to be frugal and attentitive to what you spend.A shamefull way to have to exist
Nik_B 3,790
Why are things more expensive, or is it that peoples wages have fallen?
MoChara 1,632
When i lived in belcoo in Fermanagh - on Saturdays the asda in enniskillen would be inaccessible. Maybe 1 northern reg car for every 20 southern reg. I had to go wine mark for the drink cause of it Thank god for county down
WannaBKeeper 0
The standard dole for someone over 25 in ireland is 188 euro, not great when you consider the price of things over here, rent, food, fuel etc i think your eligible after X months residence, and you have less then 20,000 in the bank account, the hunting scene is strong depending on your location, some counties in my opinion are more affiliated with field sports, in general a "who you know" situation normally occurs with local gun/sporting clubs which can be difficult to get into, even harder for an englishman ? lol. Housing prices are low compared to 5-10 years ago but starting to rise again slowly. 5 euro a pint 10 euro for a box of smokes and euro to licence each firearm you own, i cant see the term rip off ireland dissipating anytime soon ,but things have improved in certain respects, i just cant quite think of any off hand
