Tornado1979 145
This time next week I'll hopefully have my rifles from RFD and in my gun cabinet, I've got an Anchutz .22 + Tikka T3 super varmint .223. The .22 comes equipped with 500+ Winchester subs hollow point 40 Grain. The .223 I'm going to buy several packs to see which best suits the T3, it's 1 in 12 twist rate, can anyone point me in the right direction or recommend ? I've been told the Norma 50 Grain VMAX would be a good choice ? I'll be using for foxing only. Quote Link to post
alan81 110
I use Hornady 53gr Superformence they are very accurate and hard hitting any fox iv shot fell on the spot. 1 Quote Link to post
thomasc4329 10
I had a t3 varmint with the same one in twelve twist barrel. I used hornady through it without any problems it love the 40 and 55 grain varmint express and the 53 grain superformance aswell these round wer easily sourced and did the business so I had no need to change. I've just got the super varmint in 243 so I'm searching for a round that suits aswell. I don't think you'll go far wrong with hornady though. 1 Quote Link to post
Gloop 5
My t3 light loved the 53 grain vmax. But since I lobbed 4 inches off the barrel the group has opened a bit. I am off out today to try to develop a load to suit. 60 grainers first 1 Quote Link to post
Tornado1979 145
Checked with local RFD and he stocks Hornady superformance 53g, £20 a box so I'll make sure I test. 1 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
And then I will teach you to reload, and you can make your own super accurate ammo, cheap 1 Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
Ammo choice/type will depend on what your rifle likes and what you intend to shoot at (commonly your pocket as well). I am very fortunate that all my Centrefires can deliver 1" with PRVI. My T3 Lite .223 is 1-8 and gets by just fine with PRVI 55g SP, that does everything I need in the field, I also get home brews which will go in the same hole, but 1" or 1 hole at 100 yards makes very little difference to most quarry. 1 Quote Link to post
Tornado1979 145
Like the sound of reloading, look forward to the lesson Quote Link to post
Tornado1979 145
I'm going to test a few types mate, hopefully it'll like the cheaper brand, until I get to the reloading stage in future at least Quote Link to post
ferreting lad 2
i used 55grn hornady ballistic tips which i find great on fox but have also used 55grn federal powershocks Quote Link to post
shovel leaner 7,650
I guarantee that you will be hard pushed to improve on Sako 50 grs gamehead , you might improve groups if you reload your own ,but that is under bench rest shooting conditions . Real life shooting in the field , at sensible ranges they are the best . Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
They are only the best if your rifle likes them mate, if it does not shoot them, and it shoots privi well the privi are better. Quote Link to post

The guy is asking for advice on bullet selection . I have used privi and they are a good budget round in 308 , but the sako 223 50grn will be very good in his Tikka . He is asking advice , and i am saying that sako is a good bullet choice to start with , yes over time he may well find a round that best suits his rifle . But to start off he wont go far wrong with Sako or Norma if he can get them . Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Again I agree, but only if his rifle likes them, which it probably will, but all rifles are different, what may be spit accurate in one may be crap in another, I will soon get him reloading, and the Sako or Norma cases will be great for that. shovel leaner 7,650
Whatever floats your boat . And i am not knocking anyone that reloads . Its just that i think that i shoot my fair share of foxes , last year i shot 32 on the shoot and another 23 on some chicken and sheep farms . With a couple of zeroing sessions thats just over 3 boxes at £19.99 a box . and i missed 2 which were long shots . Thats with Sako 223 through a CZ 527 . Quote Link to post
