John G's Ice

Recommended Posts

I recently put a Pat over a white bitch of mine.

The Pat is, according to the pedigree (I have never had much faith in pedigrees, hand written or otherwise), heavily bred on Spartacus. His grandmother, top and bottom, is Ice (she was imported here to Oz). On this forum, I have read that Ice was a show staff cross, BUT the pedigree says she is double bred Spartacus, out of Whisp :whistling: .

What I find interesting is that the pups, born yesterday, 2 blacks and 3 whites. Now i dont really give a f**k what colour a dog is, but with my limited knowledge of genetics, surely, according to the pedigree, all the pups should be black.

Does anyone have a pic of Ice?

Any information would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Ozzy

There were two terriers from that particular pedlar called ice ... yes one was a stafford cross and the other as your ped states was spartacus bred( as you said od sold down under)........Another breeder that done very little work with them, seemed to manage to send terriers all over the world though............. this ones for you gentleman JOHN :feck:

Ozzydogman. Was the patterdale dog used bred in bringelly by predator kennels. If the parents are cruizer and josie I have a five generation pedigree of their breeding somewhere here and if I can remember correctly there were two white staffs in there somewhere. I bought a couple of pups by a similar bred dog out of the original line imported by Roger Bryant in 1994 as outcrosses. Fair bit of staff behind L . Aplin,s Grip with D. Wheelers Snapper and Sally II. Ken Goulds Blackjack had staff behind him too. Predator kennels had their dogs imported in 2002 and they were sourced by one Brian Nuttall. They used to have a website with pictures of dogs with white feet and large white chest blazes. There is also a picture of a pure red/orange brindle pup. Alot of the dogs look like Spartacus being tall, narrow and fine boned.

There's plenty of white's been born to coloured parents (michael jacksons?) so it's not surprising to see some...not all that common, but not surprising. Fred Barkers Illfracombe crosses, through Anthony, his boy, then to Sid Wilkinson and through to Middleton....there's the lakey link. And there's the Staffs used too.....

Think Tufftpaul's p***y was down from Ice if I remember right. Think both sire and dam came over to Australia.

Good one Stabs :laugh: ILfracombe through chowt faced rock  IF thats where they all came from i d have one ,BUT if thats what that line produced PITY.Any ive seen are neither lakey or russel but some seriousely deficient inbetween. My personal opinion is they are a product of the show ring, not worth a ball of Ilfracombes dogs dry dung

m.r1, I have no idea

Cheers Nando.

Brother Fox, Yep, thats the line. I also have the 5 gen, and can trace parts back 8 gen, but that dont mean its the correct breeding :whistling: . Any idea which 2 were the white staffs? My male was a big S.O.B. 23 pounds in condition, and plenty of bone. Very staffy-like.

Cheers Stabs. I figured there was white in the background (way back, - or not so way back :icon_eek: ), but i have never been told of whites from black parents. Must be something thats usually swept under the rug??

Cheers fellas

brother fox,

no Russell in her at all.

2 of the whites are mostly white (95%) with a bit of colour around the head, with a dab on the back/base of tail.

The 3rd white (she was the runt and died within 24 hours. Only weighed 2.7 ounces) was heavily coloured, like the mothers sire.

I knew about Eyeball being half staff, but not about Tess.

Cheers mate,

Stabs just to add my remarks may have come across a bit nasty, not meant to be ,i know and believe what you wrote but just was pointing out that a lot of what are being claimed today as being from that breeding are not and have been bred for eye appeal only as you know.Im sure there are some whites being through in black litters but the so called white fells ive owned "worked"and seen where lacking seriousely and where riding on the back of this .No offence meant to anyone who owns white dogs ,where ever they came from BUT offence meant to the orchestrators of breeding of white dogs for eye appeal and using the name of lines of working animals.
