Nick3439 83
I have a permission on a golf course where they have stated that by the club house they get loads of issues with rabbits; I've been working the obvious holes around the course (get it) but due to one of the primary requests around the permission being to not be seen by the punters I've had to work it small windows of opportunity (before they get on the course) and now they are going on at me to fix it around the club house; seemingly this strikes me as an impossibility due to the request to be like a ninja but nonetheless I had a walk around without the ferrets just to see if I could work out where to net. Now here's the thing... Can't find a warren around the clubhouse or anywhere in the immediate vicinity where I would normally 'look' (eg base of dead trees etc. So how far should I expand my search to know I'm targeting the little critters that are causing the 'clubhouse issue' Hope that all makes sense, thoughts... johnny boy68 11,726
Go there with a lamp and watch where they run, should give you an idea of where the warren is. 4 Quote Link to post
Nick3439 83
Not a bad idea Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
I hate jobs like these. "We want all the rabbits gone - for free. Oh and your not to be seen or be about when publics about (around 90% of the time)"... I know you/we gotta take permission where you can find it, but some people expect miracles. Are these golfing folk too dumb to understand these rabbist are damaging the course and action needs taking? So why be so sensitive.. All the course`s we go on, we`re given free reign and the golfers are only happy to see us wandering round looking for rabbits. We ask them where they`ve seen them.. Have you looked under the club house or near buildings, containers? Quote Link to post
Nick3439 83
It's also literally next to my house bob; so I can't grumble too much, but yeah, I also feel more obligated to try and 'wipe' out rabbits which isn't really how my folks raised me; more about keeping a balanced ecosystem; eg where I live I don't shoot hares or jays because quite frankly I don't see enough of them for them to be a 'pest' 2 Quote Link to post
The one 8,469
As said going out with a lamp will give you a true idea of rabbit numbers and where they come from , i was always told rabbits wont travel more than 30 -50 yards from there burrows but lately they have traveled a lot more . at my local course they where under the shrubbery surrounding the club house and no in any burrows Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
As said sounds like a night job , Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,068
Have you looked at other things,, the warren might not be a typical warren in soil with holes,, it might be under a container ,, shed,, or even under some concrete building,,,, they turn up in some odd places do rabbits Quote Link to post
Hot Meat 3,109
we do a golfy and ole guy that owns it made us drive right round it, mid summer, mid day, to show us hotspots lol then he told us to get them shifted by anymeans lol and if punters said owt to us, we were to ignore them and he would deal with it lol as it goes not 1 golfer has past comment other than asking how we are doing. have noticed a lot of bunnys travel some distance to feed on golfy tho Quote Link to post
random 659
I go on a golf course with the same basic "only when the golfers can't play" condition,so when its dark or closed off due to weather basically,I find they will travel 50/60 yards easily but usually have little sets nearby that they dob into when disturbed,is lamping them an option? 1 Quote Link to post
Nick3439 83
No guns/Dogs/Digging. It really is rather tricky.... Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,068
I know it's easy for me sat here with a good load of rabbity permission to go on,,,, but I would feck that right off,,, in my opinion golf courses should be paying for rabbit control,,, but I understand when you don't have much to go on you put up with it. 3 Quote Link to post
Hot Meat 3,109
i agree tomo, only reason we do the 1 we do is it is part of a much bigger permo and we are allowed dogs, digging, lamping or anything else we see fit to get job done, tbh tho we know the owner is 1 in a million lol Quote Link to post
BazB 37
The owners also almost a million so hopefully he has a easy going son we havnt met yet Quote Link to post
The one 8,469
I did a golf course across the road from me for ten years just coming and going as I wanted the green keepers would often roll up saying we knew you where out somebody phoned the club house saying some bodies digging up the popular,s LOL, then they got a new green convenor and he said I'm only wanting you to ferret between 7pm and 7am my second word was off 1 Quote Link to post
