I love the thought process, see the word small field, get a small dog for those of us who have ram small fields will know, no c**t told the hare he's in a small field. As far as he's concerned he's in open land with bits of wire, fence posts, walls, trees, gates etc to use as means of escape. The way you lot talk the dogs got to catch in a paddock or all is lost your right in the fact you need a fast type dog but you don't need a small dog ffs. One that can jump, has a turn of speed and a bit of wind is what your after.Hav I seen a hare? Are you for real lil of course ur gonna need a smaller dog for smaller fields so they put the boot down an far more nipper... I've done smallish fields all my life preban, smallest dog I've had was just over 25tts but usually 27tts. Never had a problem with height. I suppose it would come into it if you were coursing your back garden but that's about it. 1 maybe 2 acres if lucky its mostly on mountains aswell all tight going for a dog a bigger dog would obviously be better on the flat fields but in my opinion that's all there good for big dogs are no good were I hunt I'd pick a smaller lurcher over the bigger any day... Horses for courses I live in the highlands mate. I ain't no stranger to mountainous terrain. So your talking dogs for fields of 1 acre? How many folk course fields that small, not many I'd guess. Small to me is 5-7 acre fields. 1 acre is known here as a garden. Not many id say as I live in a pretty shit area for them but most of the fields I do local are all small fields ya wouldn't call most of them fields there only accessible on foot ya couldn't drive a tractor in 1 of these fields... Horses for courses Iv got over 20 long ear this season an my season stopped last week as the hares are pairing up and the rabbits are breeding... So I happy enough with the catch id say half of you lot wouldn't have come near that number but I'm not worried aslong as my dogs r giving there all in the field and getting a bag or 2 each time thats all that matters... Would put half of your english dogs to shame anyways because all u got is flat ground... all them dogs ever do is run a flat if ya brought them to mountains they be lost Quote Link to post
