Best Calibre Pistol For Terrier Work

Recommended Posts

best i can judge

Shotguns held on a shotgun certificate are subject to a legal minimum barrel length of 24 inches (61cm), but there is no limit on overall length meaning that 'pistol grip only' shotguns are legal, though the barrels would be longer than most 'sawed-off shotguns'. Shotguns held on a shotgun certificate must either have no magazine, or a non-removable magazine capable of holding no more than two rounds.

Semi-automatic or pump action shotguns held on a firearms certificate (which are not subject to any magazine restrictions) are subject both to a minimum barrel length of 24 inches (61cm) and a minimum overall length of 40 inches (102cm). This precludes legal ownership of 'short' shotguns of this type on a firearms certificate..

Shotguns held on a firearms certificate that are neither semi-automatic nor pump action are subject only to a minimum barrel length of 12 inches (30cm), well within the definition of a 'sawed-off shotgun'. Muzzleloading guns are exempt from this restriction and may have barrels of any length.[8]

so you can buy a cheap single folding 410 chop the barrel to 24 inch. less if you add a moderator :whistling: and alter the stock to a pistol grip and still hold it on a shotgun ticket :hmm:

.410

why would you bother though paulus? might as well just get a folding .410 and leave it as is if there is enough room to get 2 foot of barrel into the dig then the little bit extra for the stock wont hurt

i wouldn't i would get a pistol :laugh::laugh:

I've had a .32 2 shot for a while now for despatch of deer, after 3 attempts to varify for fox I've just had it passed to "HUMANE DESPATCH OF ANIMALS"

Bit of messing about but finally got there.

The gun itself is a derringer, a short stubby over & under with rifled barrels which are roughly 3". Got that from York guns too.

might be wrong here but can you not cut a single 410 down to a 23 inch barrel and take the stock back to the pistol grip, that way its still classed as a shotgun :hmm:

pretty much what i did but i took the barrell to 24" and removed the trigger guard then trimmed the depth of the stock so folded its 24" x3 1/2" very handy tool dont think you can take anything off the length of the stock as theres a minimum overall length for shotguns.ps the firearms officer has seen the gun and was happy enough..
