shaunpowell 130
Doesnt depend so much on the breed I find its the maturity of the dog there all diffrent mate usually in between 10/12 month old but like I said there all diffrent. Atb shaun Quote Link to post
dan john 82
I started mine at 8 months gave him 2 easy runs and how he ran them I thought he was not ready yet so focused on ferreting gave him plenty of pugged rabbits and was doing every thing right and started lamping him bout 3 months ago and doing really good well what I call good so only thing is to do is try him but only give it sensible runs and not to much to soon I only give my dog 5 6 runs and he been stopping them will star testing him a bit more atb dan jonh 1 Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Started mine at 7 month first time out he got 1 out of 7 runs but did every thing right 2nd time he got 6 out of ten runs I've had him out again other week but the was no wind and every thing was away before I could get close he had 2 runs what we're asking to much of him really but he still give his best , 8 month now so I'm not going to over work him Quote Link to post
jeppi26 1,855
The cross isn't an issue and each person thinks different but for me I take mine out at about 9/10 months old to watch other dogs work and after a couple of weeks of the pup watching the experienced dog then it's time to try the pup on easy squatters or bunnys right out in the field make it as easy as possible for pups first few runs a couple a night 2/3 times a week Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Like above every one is different but it's your dog if you think he/she is ready then go for it but take it easy and pat and praisey the dog regardless of the out come Quote Link to post
stupot123 1
that's what I thought rex26 let the pup watch an experience dog on the lamp 1st so it has a idea what to do thanks alot for your help every1 Quote Link to post
lurcherman887 178
14 months when there fully formed and not so puppyish your going to own the dog for what? Ten years plus? Whats the rush running them at 7 months is beyond me and theyl only end up sold or yapping and jacking then im sure the PUP will be at fault not the owner atb Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
That's right it's beyond you mate, shouldn't judge people who you don't know , you don't know me or my my dog one thing for sure mate first thing he's 100% a family pet same as my jack Russell and 4 ferrets none of them are or where brought into work, only time they work is with me and a lot of land we go on are not aloud dogs on so it's not every weekend they are out ,I'm not having a dig at any one but if I think my dogs are fit and ready which they are.lamp or ferret all day/night is my choice Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
And they will not at any point be sold Quote Link to post

And not judging any one but what ive seen with me own eyes people running puppys down the beam overrunning them without catching leads to yaps and jacks each to there owm if you wanna ruin your jukel carry on mine will watch and learn and when there ready will run your only going to frustrate the dog runing at that age .. Let us no how it gets on in the future mate Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Think what you like pall one thing for sure what ever the outcome he's still going to be part of the family till the day he passes away never be rehoused or put down could you say that This look like a dog that's been mistreated or not ready to work Quote Link to post

Penda 3,341
Depends on the dog I always say best not to rush some dogs will start early picking up the odd day time bunny if there doing this then Its time to show them a few easy runs you can normaly tell with in little time if the dogs up for it me personaly 12 months is the best age to start from what ive learn in the past ive ruined dogs through my own aderlesant over keeness it doesnt do a dog any favours just does your head in and leaves you with a dog that yaps behind rabbits, not every dog does this but it does happen all the best any way 2 Quote Link to post
