Nik_B 3,790
I suppose it shouldn't be a surprise but I never thought dry food would be so bad for a dog. No doubt this program is going to be a bit of a shocker http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2546512/How-pet-food-killing-dog-feeding-parsnips-yoghurt.html
walshie 2,804
My last 2 dogs were fed dry food and they lived to be 12. I wonder how long they would have lived if I'd fed other stuff?

hutch6 550
Dog food companies bring out food that is bad for dogs but deemed as "complete". Dog food companies then sponsor vets to get them up and running. Vets then push bad dog food onto clients to earn commission. Clients take vets word for it. Dog gets ill due to tooth decay every few moths and goes back to the vets time after time. Vets know that a natural diet is good for dogs but don't push it as it will loose them money in the long run. Dog food companies then spot a way to push products further with so many dogs having bad teeth with so many of them on their shitty food and start selling more tooth rotting tooth cleaning chews to combat the tooth decay their food caused in the first place. Dog food companies and vets make a shit load of money from dog owners without caring for dogs. Folk have been shunning dry foods/complete foods for years and nobody takes notice until it's exposed on national media
hutch6 550
If you swap to raw then get your dogs some bones from the butchers (anything non-weight baring) or give them a few chicken carcasses to munch their way through each day. Their teeth will be clean and better looking in days. Google poultry processing to find your local supplier. It's usually about 50p/kilo average. It's the best protein to start them on as it's not too hash on their stomachs which if they are on complete will be delicate and have very little bacteria to break down tougher sources. I'm going to put my dog on a raw diet, only problem is we only have a fridge freezer at the moment so not loads of space. Arkwrights that I use is on there too...got a freezer full of raw anyway so going to keep mixing it in with the kibble then do away with kibble for good...money will be better spent on meat! What do people do with their chicken carcasses, chopped / minced / given whole?

What do people do with their chicken carcasses, chopped / minced / given whole? Give them it whole as the process of eating it uses all of their teeth and cleans them. Minced raw is pretty bad as it gets stuck in the teeth. Raw meaty bones is the way to keep your dogs in good health.

Not sure I'd like the idea of my dog dragging a chicken carcass around the house last time I gave him pigs trotters I was picking the toe nails out of the carpet for days afterwards The dog trainer I go to does RAW and she recons she's got a fairly mess free way of doing it. I definitely notice the difference when he's not had a beef bone for a while breath smells worse as he's obviously not getting his teeth cleaned.
