Jon Evans 14
I have just finished kitting my air rifle out with '4x32 swiss' arms scope and a 'Red Beam Hunting Lamp' tactical light that is mounted on top of my scope. I am have good success with this at the moment, but i am looking to do some rat shooting up at a local chicken farm. My plan is to get into a elevated hide above were the rats tend to be and spend a few hours there. The owners already had someone up there with his airgun and he had built a hide but ended up being sacked for shooting a chicken or something, i am not to sure on the details. So i would be after a bipod for by Webley .20 VMX airgun, something that is fold able for easy storage and will still fit in gun case. Looking around the £20 - £30 mark, ebay or similar sights are fine. Thanks in advance, Jon 1 Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Don't, just don't it is a spring powered rifle, they do not work well with bipods at all, the recoil you see! Better read this... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/182473-spring-air-rifle-shooting/ This! http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/187884-prone-position-stability/ And watch this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLed_nD5ixA Invest in a proper shooting rest and lay your hand on top of it! Bipods and spring powered rifles do not mix! Quote Link to post
Jon Evans 14
Great reads from what i can see from a quick scim im about to pop out for a afternoon walk and shoot so ill read them when im back, but from what i can see from above something like this seems to be idle http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HSF-MONOPOD-SHOOTING-STICK-/380370233185?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item588fd52761 ??? pianoman 3,587
If your rifle's a spring powered gun Jon, the only things that will work supporting it are your hands, supported by your arms. Nothing else. Please don't waste your good money on bipods for spring rifles, they just don't work the way you think they do. Pianoman Quote Link to post
twymanc 135
Yep defo agree there on a pcp maybe if your baiting Maggie's or pigeons maybe but for field shooting it's just gonna unbalance your rifle and by the time you've in pulled the arms down you could of been prone and bowled the bunnies over already just my 2 bob lol Quote Link to post
Jon Evans 14
Yeah i was just being lazy i think Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
Nothing wrong with using the bipod to improve aim whilst ambush shooting, but only on a CO2 or PCP. A spring powered rifle recoils, as you know! Where you hold the rifle affects the recoil as does how hard you hold it. A spring powered rifle usually means the bipod is somewhere on the barrel, which can affect aim, the surface you shoot off will affect aim, hard surfaces such as concrete will grip the bipod in a different way to soft earth, affecting aim... Too many variables, means you will be lucky to hit where you are aiming at with a bipod and a spring powered rifle, I know. I tried when I had a Webley Stingray mark 2, just does not work. A proper shooters cushion or a bean bag will do for ambush shooting! Just put your hand on top of the rest and then hold your stock as normal! nickb65 1
Hang on.... I use shooting sticks with my HW97 and they are padded with foam and work really well. The sticks came with a padded V so I added another layer in the form of some camo cloth and so far they are working really well. Quote Link to post
