Theres a differance between. Watching on the telly and supporting.

No shit Sherlock, what do you want, a blue peter badge?.. :tongue2: I follow United because my old man does. He was a young lad who liked football while the United team was rebuilding after Munich and has followed them ever since. We were winning f**k all when I had my first United shirt for Christmas as a kid in the mid '80s, it was all Liverpool. Many people my age are Liverpool fans, that's just the way it goes when you ain't lucky enough to be born into an area with a club to go and support. How many of the top clubs are primarily made up of players from the club's catchment areas? Sounds a bit hypocritical saying you ain't allowed to follow a club unless you're local when it's full of players from all over the world.. I could maybe agree with you if your team was full of local lads like the little village teams are where I am..

The fa cup isn't as important to the clubs challenging in the champions league & premier league due to the money involved. Because of this club boards demand success in these 2 completions and the

The Champions league has been the ruination of our own domestic trophies.....the FA Cup was the most prestigious domestic trophy in the world yet now the bigger clubs just see it as a pain in the arse

Utd was still getting stadium full when winning foook all so thats bollox. Max you just hate utd and is blind so dont need footballing info from you so give it a rest geez. Newcastle fans .. have more

People moan about how commercialised the premier league is......but its nothing compared to the champions league.....i hate the champions league as a competition not just because my club will never be in it :D but by its very nature......its not for champions.....and its neither a league or a cup !!......How can a team who came 4th in their national league win the European CHAMPIONS league !!

As for supporting your local club....i dont think its for anyone to say the rules another man lives his life by but i know i couldnt do it......id love to be a Liverpool or Utd supporter and be behind the greatest teams in the land......but to " make a decision " to support them just dont sit right with me you are what you are.... i feel sorry for people who follow clubs from a distance they miss out on so much.......but each to their own as long as folk are happy with their fix of football its all good.

Peer presure , My old man is a blue as was his , just can not see the point in following a team you are rarely. Going to see live , And iam more of a watson. Old chap !!!!!

What percentage of Uniteds support is from within a 10-15 mile radius of the City Center ?

In my eyes it's laughable folk from Devon to Durham

From Northumberland to Northants supporting United

Even those mid age who say but iv always supported them.

Lets see if over the next ten seasons if they are mediocre how many north East or South East or West kids are still United lol

Just out of interest Max was you brought up in Sunderland ? You must be at least 20 odd miles from Sunderland id of thought Middlesbro and Hartlepool must be nearer you ?

Depends on your definition of local really! It's all about the international side for me, that's my main sporting passion.. I live in a village of 400 odd people out on the west coast. Closest proper professional (regional) team is the Llanelli Scarlets which covers my area, I support them in as much as I look out for their results and catch them when they're on the TV. Been to watch them a few times, but again it's not exactly local.. Grew up going to watch Pembroke with my grandad and played mini rugby there, played at youth level for Pembroke Dock for a few years and watched Tenby off and on for a bit. They're just small, local clubs. Don't know if you city boys have the equivalent small local amateur football teams in certain ares of the cities and all? Most villages here have their own football and cricket teams, it's only the larger towns who have rugby teams..

EDIT:

I recon malts a SCARLETS man !!!!!

Good guess! :D

Think iv explained before

Sunderland is 10-12 miles from where I live

Sunderland is a town on the North East coast all around it are EX colliery villages

Sunderlands Support comes from the City and Surrounding Collierys

My Father supports SAFC as did his Dad

All his siblings support SAFC

My mothers parents were born in Houghton le Spring area around 2 miles from Sunderland

All these areas were predominantly SAFC

Till the Keegan era

As for Hartlepool

Till maybe 20 years ago

The Collierys and Hartlepudlians fought like cat and dog

Although only a few miles apart even their accents are different.

More so in the past

I blame Eastenders and Corrie for that.

So no although I like to see Pools do well

I'm Sunderland and best part of our family both sides are although iv a few coursins who follow the mags.

Re the Boro there get best part of their support from Boro' Stockton'Billingham'Redcar ect with a Handfull from the Collierys off the back of the Robson era.

. Wat aboot the mackam tack em and wrapp em scabby ship yard workers theen
