RubyTex 1,957
The fa cup isn't as important to the clubs challenging in the champions league & premier league due to the money involved. Because of this club boards demand success in these 2 completions and the fa cup is just a bonus. Same for the smaller clubs really, it is far more important for them to finish as high as possible in the league/ avoid relaxation than have a cup run. Exactly this. Clubs at the top of the Premiership want to keep a fresh squad with plenty of rest periods between matches so a cup run puts an end to that, teams at the bottom usually don't want a cup run because they need everyone in, fit and up for the fight to stay in the league. Look at last year, Wigan won it and went down. This year Sunderland got through to the League Cup final and will only stay up if there's some kind of miracle performed on Wearside and with Sunderland still in the FA cup they have even more matches to contend with... Stay in the Premiership or win a Cup?? Hmm. I'm pleased for Sunderland and it's been a fantastic run for them to get to the final, but they're 2nd bottom in the league! No good for me, Premiership should be a priority..
THE STIFFMEISTER 15,920
As someone whose hometown club played in a couple of tin cup finals in the last tweny years at both wembley and cardiff wembleypersonally means nothing to me, far better at Cardiff millennium stadium, cheaper for fans, better city to get about in, better stadium, I never saw any advantage in rebuilding wembley , the England team playing on the road at Newcastle , villa, old Trafford etc was far better crack and gave the rest of the country a chance to watch the national team rather than just those who live within a couple of hours of the capital in fact I'm pretty certain that the only reason was so the bullied at school weasels in the fa didn't have to travel to Cardiff to watch the

gnasher16 30,118
The Champions league has been the ruination of our own domestic trophies.....the FA Cup was the most prestigious domestic trophy in the world yet now the bigger clubs just see it as a pain in the arse.......when we was kids every young boy kicking a ball about in the playground pretended he was scoring the winner in the fa cup final.....now its the champions league final......for fans winning the fa cup was bigger than winning the league....you could give many fans any random year and they could tell you who won the fa cup i bet they couldnt tell you who won the league. Its why Allardyce at my club will never be forgiven for giving the competition away the way he did at Forest the other week....its the FANS competition and he didnt care....for our fans in particular it holds a special place....we was the last side to win the fa cup outside the top league.....and the last side to win the fa cup with a completely English team.....by tradition its a massive competition but like much else in football and society in general we are selling out on our traditions. Ive been saying for years......start giving the 4th champions league spot to the fa cup winners and you see how much importance go,s back on the fa cup ! Malt 379
Lets see if over the next ten seasons if they are mediocre how many north East or South East or West kids are still United lol Liverpool maintained a huge support all about the country and beyond when they got knocked off their perch 20 odd years ago.. You another closet United fan Max? You can't seem to shut up about them..
gonetoearth 5,144
Max. Every one would like that support to build the coffers its not about that its a bout the FA cup. The oldest cup comp in the world the sky genoration and arm chairs could not care because they are ignorant of the passion and probley never done the car , coach , train , thumed it to the far flung grounds of the nation to stand in grounds and go on the piss in the local pubs and had the ups and downs. And the laughs. The THE FA CUP IS. AN INSTERSTUTION AND SHOULD BE PROTECTED

While you have two sides inthe prem who have battled there way up through the lower divisions. Could never get my head round the BAND WAGON SUPPORTERS
Deano88 9
Maybe a few years ago it was true regarding top teams fielding weakened squads for the FA cup but as a gooner, I can say if anyone thinks the squad we fielded against coventry was weak, then please list who should have played? I do agree the champions league has affected how clubs treat the FA cup but ultimately this is down to the FA. Arsenal are always slated by rivals about no silverware and only playing for our "4th place" trophy but if the financial rewards are greater for a 4th place finish compared to winning the FA cup, why would football clubs/businesses want to go for the latter? Top clubs are more about profit/loss than silverware. Hence why Arsenal who already have extortionate ticket prices are hiking up prices next year by 3% when we have won nothing and turn a profit yearly that is up with some of the biggest clubs in the world. As a fan who has gone for over 20 years, I want a trophy more than most and I agree the FA cup used to be the best demestic knockout competiton in the world but if I had a choice, I would rather the league title, then champs league and then the FA cup. Best idea was above with giving the champions league place to the FA cup winners and not 4th place in the league. A LOT more clubs would take it seriously and imagine the fairytale of a lower league club potentially playing in the champions league. Id vote for that

There are people like me all over the country and the world, should they be embarrassed as well? Without people like me your club wouldn't be what it is today, nor would any other premier league club. Everton couldn't afford to field a team full of international players with what you earn at the gates, it's the TV money that fans like me fork out every month than is the lifeblood of the Premier League clubs.. Look up at the SPL for inspiration if you want to see how things would look if there wasn't such a huge interest in the teams that play in the EPL outside of the people who go to matches. It might not be as bad as the SPL but you get the picture..
gonetoearth 5,144
Theres a differance between. Watching on the telly and supporting. The revenue genorated by the champions league has changed football for ever no doupt about it Am afraid i dont have a fav spanish or french or german side who i would pay sky or any other to watch. Everton were fielding internationals long before sky came along. , As were man utd still dont answer the qestion how people who live in the catchment area of prem clubs or even lower leage clubs would prefare to jump on the band wagon of a succesfull club. Could never and will never get my head round that one.
