hunter2013 0
I have installed my gun cabinet in to a double wardrobe on a brick wall,it is setting on the bottom of the wardrobe and not on the floor, does it have to be sat on the floor Quote Link to post
TheRealChuckNorris 42
Mine isn't. It's on a wooden platform to help raise it to the same level of the skirting board and therefore more secure against the rear wall. FEO liked the job my Brother-in-Law did and signed it off without any fuss whatsoever. 2 Quote Link to post
hunter2013 0
Thanks that's what I need to know i will also get a pic up if i can later, The electronic gun cabinet got as a gap down the one side where you can get a crowbar in, will this stop it from passing, the safe is new and the gap is all the way down Quote Link to post
hunter2013 0
??? Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
What do you mean a gap down one side? Ideally they like it to be flush against the wall which you can ensure by putting wood beneath it so you don't have to hack up your skirting board. The whole crowbar thing is a joke really, it wouldn't take much to smash up the plaster so you could get a crowbar in behind it. 1 Quote Link to post
Tornado1979 145
I've removed small section of skirting board on selected wall, fitted safe and then fitted skirting board either side of safe, the safe is flush to wall and looks nice and tidy. 1 Quote Link to post

No point installing and then risk not having it passed by the FEO which means he'd just have to come back out and add further delays to your application. The safes aren't impregnable and Nik_B is right - it would be far easier to rip it off the walls. As you've spotted that the safe could be vulnerable you can bet your FEO would make the same judgement and then that's just a ball ache to rebook and sort out. Better 30 mins sorting now than two weeks of delays. Quote Link to post
hunter2013 0
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201006599251?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648 This is the same safe I have got and as you can see around the door you have a gap, will this be ok. DO NOT BUY OF THIS PEOPLE Quote Link to post

Nik_B 3,790
You mean like this? Obviously there's going to be a gap where the door closes this isn't what they're bothered about as the door is secured by two bolts. You can see at the base of my safe there's wood. This wasn't for the skirting board I had to reposition mine so I was bolting in to brick not grout which was like cheese. I'd stay away from the electronic locks myself I don't trust electrical things...sods law it wont work the one day you get time off to go shooting Quote Link to post
Nik_B 3,790
By the way technically you don't need to store shotguns in a cabinet unlike rifles and pistols but you'd have a hard time with the police on that one 1 Quote Link to post
hunter2013 0
I know you dont need one but i think it looks better having one, i can keep the air rifle in there too, I was not sore if it was meant to have a gap, as there are one on ebay bay saying crow bar resistant, Thank you for your help Nik_b i was worried about that Quote Link to post
