Thinking back I don't even know why I chucked that up there, sorry mate.. Guess I find the idea of a 'St. Maggie Day' a little too much to bear! If there is one subject garunteed to turn even the best of friends against each other, it's Thatcher! LOL Agreed, and that's why I think the idea of naming a day after her is a bloody stupid one! Yes agreed malt,,, she was an evil c**t pure and simple

They might have been badly managed but they were still assets mate.. Imo the core utilities that dealt with power generation and the supply of water should never have been sold off.. Everything else, fair enough. We're now in a situation where we are being forced to go begging to the chinks for money to pay the frogs to build us new power stations. Who'll be paying for that? If we was still buying our power off the state it would come out of our bill money, as things stand we'll be paying it out of our taxes and still having to pay our ever increasing bills along side it. We will be paying twice for the same product..
WILF 48,149
Mate, IMHO an asset that costs you money is no longer an asset it's a liability . You would pay twice anyway because the business would be subsidised by you through taxes. Edited January 24, 2014 by WILF
Malt 379
Surely we should be paying anything at all out of our taxes though wilf? I thought the idea of privatisation was to wash the hands if it all and let the private companies pay for everything out of their profits? As things stand we're paying more for things like the railways than we ever did when they were in state hands, now we're paying for more power stations to be built. f**k, we're even subsidising big employers like Tescos with minimum wage and tax credit these days, where does it end? We were told that privatisaton was supposed to save the country money, all its done is benefitted the investors.. All these subsidies are no more than a taxpayer funded benefit for the rich.. WILF 48,149
GTE, mate its just my opinion but the alternative was much worse.......this country was dead in the water when she took over. She almost single handedly dragged it back to life..........there is no argument to that, it's a fact and its well documented. 98% tax rates, black outs, the unions holding the country to ransom, rubbish piles 10 foot high on the street for 6 weeks, 3 day weeks............the absolute sick man of Europe, documented fact no matter how rosy the specs you put on. IMHO, yes the medicine was bitter but that's because the sickness was so bad........the unions gambled with all those lads jobs and lost.

The biggest thief IMO is Gordon Brown he did a lot worse, he sold HALF of our gold reserves for f**k all to pay off the Labour debt. That's half the country's reserve wealth! He should be tried for treason. if that was true seeker ask yourself this why all these cuts to services if labour paid its debts off lol

I lived and grew up threw those times too mate, a lad who has worked for me for years was one of the poor f***ing soldiers that got the job of clearing the rubbish after it had been rotting in the street for 6 weeks......told me they used to have to burn their coveralls every day when they got back........I lived right by Woolwhich barracks and I used to see the poor c**ts going off to do it every day. Thank f**k the unions are now nothing more than a powerless throwback to a shit bygone age.......all thanks to the lady
