tandeasen 2
i and my partnerhas just received 2 stags that are proven runners and coursers. Our thoughts were to let these 2 animals breed and get a liter for a future hunter and have at least 3 dogs. I knnow from research that crosses are bred like a saluki, or collie mix. Will the 2 stags produce good animals? Quote Link to post

DanRaistrick 53
My dad had a first cross Staghound Greyhound when he was a bit younger, he swears by the cross and says she is the best bitch he ever owned by far and a brilliant all round running dog. All of his mates have told me she was the best dog around back in the day but the crosses are hard to come by. I myself have a Deerhound Greyhound (Deerhounds being similar to staghounds) and she's a brilliant dog. I'd try keep them pure staghound pups or at the most put them to a good greyhound, there are too many dogs with allsorts of unnecessary breeds in them these days, I'm more of a fan of 'old type' running dogs. 1 Quote Link to post

DanRaistrick 53
Not too sure, the Sire was a first cross Deer/Grey called Gengus from Durham and the Dam is a racing turned coursing Greyhound brought over from Ireland. Quote Link to post
courser 73
In England a deerhound cross Greyhound used to be called a "Staghound cross" In fact a pure bred Staghound is like a large foxhound and being a scent hound, was hunted in packs Very few people call a deerhound cross a Staghound. A deerhound and a Staghound are very different. These days a deerhound cross is a deerhound cross! If you were to use a pure Staghound for breeding you would probabley have to breed a second Generation back to Greyhound for pace. Quote Link to post
