brucemyster 75
Was a good boy and declared I had been treated in the past for depression on my shotgun certificate application, had an operation for perforated bowel and nearly carked it, spent 6 months in hospital and had complications lasting over 5 years and the doctor prescribed me anti depressants, now I'm happy as a sand boy, that was until I got a letter from the firearms department asking for a doctors letter for which I'm having to pay the princely sum of £60.50, you'd have thought this eventually would have been covered by the licensing fee or is that just wishful thinking on my behalf, the worst part about it is that my doctor could say I'm not fit for purpose, even though I don't think he will, and it would still cost me £60 !! TheRealChuckNorris 42
There have been a number of threads about this on other shooting forums and the general consensus is that it isn't legal for them to force you down this route. Have a look at this on the BASC website and check their position on it as I understand they're challenging any force that tries to insist that the applicant bears the cost. I guess you're probably not wanting to rock the boat and potentially mark your card before your interview but see if you can get some guidance on this as the application should cost you £50 and it's up to the force to cover any additional fees as per other applicants. I wouldn't just roll over and pay it. Hope you get it sorted quickly
