roosika 110
I'm getting a pcp soon and I want to know if you can use a hand held lamp when out on the fields and get some one to shine for you or is It better having a tracer gun lamp on the scope ? 1 Quote Link to post
moxy 617
It's not impossible for someone else to lamp for you but much better if your in control with a scope mounted lamp. More so when using a red or filtered light. Eye shine can be thrown at different angles. So although your mate in charge of the lamp can see the target. You may not be able to. Quote Link to post
roosika 110
Aye thanks , didn't know weather it would be worth buying striker 170 or a tracer gun lamp on my scope , al get a scope lamp What would you say is a good lamp ? The tracer is not to expensive and has 250 m beam 1 Quote Link to post
moxy 617
You won't go wrong with some of the deben gear. I use a tracer max pro. It's a brilliant lamp but you of have the battery and wires to contend with. Also bear in mind that any led lamp you may decide to get won't filter true. Unless it's a dedicated coloured led. moxy 617
And get the dimmer switch!! Quote Link to post
Elliott 436
You can get powerful, coloured torch packages really cheap now. No wires and only small bit of kit to attach to your scope tube. Mine is powerful enough to stretch out to 250 yards, 300 at a push Quote Link to post
salop sniper 32
Okay am going to kind of go against the flow here! A light on top of a rifle can be handy, but also risky and takes its toll on your shoulder and arm if out on foot. When scanning the ground with a rifle mounted light looking for quarry it means swinging the rifle around wearing arms and shoulders out which doesn't help for a steady shot when you take it, also It can give poor muzzle safety with regards to pointing your rifle at something / someone that you didn't know was there that maybe shouldn't be there. I do have and use a scope mounted light from a vehicle at times though my preference is to work with a lamp man who with experience gives better lighting than a scope mounted light does, it also means the lamp man can carry the quary again keeping your fresh and rested for the next shot. This works for me and my lamping partner, I lamp for him on his permitions and he lamps on mine! some nights we take 60+ bunnys and a lamp man is a big hand ! No need to spend big money on lights, my scope mounted red led light covers to 130 yards happily (cost £25 with light, mount, pouch tail cap with curly tail cable switch)and my light force 140 (cost &40 second hand )to the same and my clu brite (cost £50) to 150 yards ! If anyone wants details on my lights PM me and I will send links. ATB Matt Edited January 23, 2014 by salop sniper Quote Link to post
j j m 6,553
get a good mounted lamp with dimmer switch fitted Quote Link to post
roosika 110
I have a clu brite has a 250 m beam on it use it sometimes using my iron sights on my old gun and my catty . Think I might get a tracer max pro with the 400 m beam and put it on top seems much easier to me . And I can just get a striker 170 for the dogs Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
Try a red led ultrafire 501b with a diy fitted refractive lens (turns beam from flood to spot and adds tons more throw/range). Order bits from china for peanuts, paint the existing refractor black and with a couple of rechargable 18650 batteries your lamping all night. No heavy battery or wires. Its all i use nowadays - my cumbersome lamps are redundant now and this set up is more than enough power for sub 12 lamping. Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
I posted beam pics and link to parts to build this lamping torch on another thread, well worth making i promise you. It costs next to nothing to build and they are superb!!! http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/274145-cree-lamps/ Quote Link to post
roosika 110
Looks good how far does it go ? Would you pm me all the links I need to get all the parts ect ? Quote Link to post
tomburras 2,730
Hi roosika, any red led ultrafire 501b on ebay (make sure its single mode) i paid 8 pounds for mine, the lens is in the link on the thread (lens was 1.50 i think) Its the best 5 min project ever lol. And for less than a tenner you have a great lamping torch! They are a million times better than the standard 501b. My shooting mates that have seen them have all made one and prefer them to there lamps! You can get green too. Just replace the old flat lens for one of the curved dx ones and paint your reflecter black. (remove it from the bulb first. Hope you make one, you will NOT be dissapointed! Quote Link to post
