Lloyd90 509
Even if you get the parents doing the job I suppose its no guarantee, just try and find a litter that is worked and put the time and effort into your dog Hope everything comes well for you pal Quote Link to post
bullmastiff 615
I know you can get a good working dog from non working parents and a cr*p dog from working parents but by using properly tested parents then I'd hope you've got a better chance of getting a good pup that will do what you want... Time, training would obviously put into a pup and more importantly getting quarry in front of it, I'm not someone who expects a dog to come out a kennel only on the weekend and to catch. fox digger 1,086
ive had the same problem looking for a stud dog, there is only so much people will say on a computer, well not all and the ones that do reveal all and wont stop talking well ya usually have a good idea after the "sermon" they give that they are not the way to go either and are a liability!! read thread after thread, search old threads for breeds you think you might like and there will be a few posts on each thread that you know will be from sombody that knows what they are talking about. drop them a pm and tell them your story and request without being too descriptive and ask what they think. if they cant help they may know sombody who can. if not keep looking and pm sombody else, when you find somthing of interest have a phone conversation with the person and ask if it would be possible to see the dogs do what thay do. the op should have you pretty sussed to say weather they will show yoou or not..... keep looking and you will get to see different animals do different things and eventually get what your after. getting the info you want isnt an overnight thing, there is a big trust issue to deal with as you know. atb with the search tho. 2 Quote Link to post
forest of dean redneck 11,609
If the dog you need is what i think it is..then no one in their right mind will show you them at work...feelers out and question lads that you think might be in the game...Though not many will admit it on here but if you follow posts closely you'll have a good idea of who should be speaking to. Precisely! There lies my problem!! lol 24-26", got to be fast but still have a bit of weight about them to help put the breaks on... Litters are thin on ground compared to summer time, but I would say a large male saluki bull greyhound pup would fit the bill. Quote Link to post

martinfish 73
its taken me nearly a year to find the right pup. its hard if you don't know anyone I think ive got the right pup at last Quote Link to post
Bosun11 537
If you really don't have any direct access to something that you'd see as well bred, then be patient and give it time, because there are no hard and fast rules to someone trusting you, as worthy of taking a pup off them. The time spent searching should give an edge, where all your effort eventually goes in to that new pup and the patience you've now got will stand you in good stead over the next twelve months of rearing and training. Or he could get a pup around the summer holidays when there's loads of litters around,or just keep trawling the Internet classifieds until the right one pops up, A lot cheaper in the long run,and probably quicker as well. lad101 57
You keep the parents as you shuld breed [BANNED TEXT] they only got 2 seasons left so at least it can show the pup you bred the ropes then retire them and run the pup most people these are full of shiat what their dogs can do or lie what's in them for a bit if extra cash Quote Link to post

Silversnake 1,099
if i were you i would work out what breeds are suitable first then talk to a few breeders which have the breeds suitable for you, not everyone is a conman and even less are good conmen. if you don't like the way a conversation is going do not buy a pup from that man. make sure you can view the parents and make an educated selection. at the end of the day you can only reduce your risks and then put as much time and effort into developing the pup into the best it can be, things are usually difficult when starting from scratch Quote Link to post
