1888andybhoy 7
Hi lads got a few stoats going about got the tunnels set with mk4's for the past 2 weeks along walls and hedges where im seing them but nothing. Is there any bait i can use / make to get them or is it just the natural tunnels that work ? Quote Link to post
jamie mc 168
Try an bait with rabbit cut in a small piece to fit under the trigger pin. Quote Link to post
OldTrapCollector 377
Dust a handful of feathers in around the tunnel - they like the visual attractant. It is unusual for them not to go in if you have placed them properly Any log piles, old trees with exposed roots, rock heaps, stone walls etc around where they are? If so then get some traps in amongst those, they will spend hours exploring such places and will go in. Fresh rabbit liver is a good bait too OTC Quote Link to post
jamie mc 168
If you are useing stoat boxes put some wheat in it attracts mice. 1 Quote Link to post
gonetoearth 5,144
Never baited a trap yet stoats just like tunnels end of get a bitch early on if your lucky and the rest just come bobbing along Quote Link to post
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Andy; You are certain you're setting them light enough ....? Quote Link to post
1888andybhoy 7
Set as light as they can go if a midge lands on the pan they will go off. Im out checking rabbit snares first thing in the morning will keep the livers out of them and also got a few pigeons hanging in the chill will get a handful of feathers and throw them about a bit. I normally use exactly the same method for mink with cages and mk6 fenns in tunnels. Cheers lads much appreciated. Quote Link to post

Matt 160
Skin the breast of a pheasant or pigeon and stick the skin onto the plate of the Fenn in it's tunnel. A few plucked feathers around the entrances of the tunnel (straight run through is best) as an added bit of eye candy and you should score if they are around. Stoats aren't too keen on carrion, so any meat type bait will be a waste of time in my opinion. Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Soon as you get one mate and you will if they are there ,squeeze the urine out of it onto the trap plates of the rest and then its happy days . Quote Link to post
cock grouse 15
Catch over a hundred stoats every year, chopped up rabbit works a treat through the winter, change to eggs in April / may then let the run through's do there job in the summer! 2 Quote Link to post
