Steve_in_Devon 9
I was wondering what peoples thoughts are. I have 2 sons, aged 10 and 12 and they are wanting to shoot with the air rifle we have. I was wondering, should they learn with a sight or not? 3 Quote Link to post
silentshot1 206
I guess it depends on what you are looking for them to achieve. You don't need a scope to learn safety, basic marksmanship etc, and a bit of garden plinking. No end of Lego fell foul to my BSA Meteor and Crossman, both open sighted, when I was that age. That said, if they want to go further with hunting or targets, then learning range estimation at set magnifications etc is boon from the beginning. Good luck with it all anyway! Quote Link to post
webster 90
from a kids point of view a scope will be cool just like the computer games , if you have one i would start them off with it as they can pic items out on coke cans i.e. the o in coke it will make them feel they are great to start off with ,one thing i would say is start them with a springer as if your good with a spring gun you will be great with a new fangled fart gun ( pcp) . i started shooting at 15 with my mates dads webley vulcan with a 4x40 scope in their back garden oneof are other mates would bring his bsa airsporter with open sights but in my head the vulcan was better too shoot as it had a scope , god knows how many tins of pellets we shot that summer but it planted the seed and now 19 years on air rifles are still in my blood 1 Quote Link to post
Steve_in_Devon 9
I have got a springer at the moment, and am picking 2 more up Thursday (they are in need of restoring, not sure what they are though but only costing me £15) Think I should look at getting them a scope then, think it will make it more fun and I dont want them to loose interest. bigmac 97kt 13,786
Iv taught my grandson(little hunter) how to shoot and how to hunt and he is only nine and he can shoot better than most of us old buggers he shoots with springer,s and pcp .The pcp he use,s for hunting and his springers he uses at the shooting range with or with out scopes he will at times take his pcp to the range get the lads into it as time with there dad is some thing they will not forget at eny time in there life and i would recommend a set of scope,s here is a few photos of little hunter doing what he dus best atvbmac Quote Link to post
