Sirius 1,391
does anyone on here use a halfx of this type now if so any upto date pics Mate of mine has one and a very very handy ferreting dog it is to. Nice robust hound for the rabbit game Fireman, really nice I worked on a few farms out in Australia 18 or so years ago, and there sure is some variation in these ACD. Every bloody ute has one tied in the back Edited February 14, 2014 by Sirius 2 Quote Link to post
2.8 guy 403
F,J you was not alone a guy local to me had one from a pup but it never made anything, also When I used to help out at the shows, I spoke to a guy at ponta pike in county duruham he had one and said the exact same as you, well he said wouldnt chase its tail. The black and tan bitch in the fuzzy photo earlier in the thread is a david james bred bitch, I owned its half brother and it was a hell of a dog in every way, That bitch never ever picked up a rabbit in all its life it would run them, mark up on em just wouldnt pick one up, I gave it to a mate who just wanted it for ferreting. Theres Nothing worse than spending time and effort and all them expectations you have to have them dashed is very upsetting. As for my acd x I got mine at about 14 months old I was offered it much younger after my collie cross was run over and killed but wasnt ready to move on at that time, also I was reluctant to take her due to the bad reports I had heard. A break up and a move up north left me living on a mates couch, He was one of the keenest hunters ive ever met we was out every day, he begged me to get another dog but I had a d james pup at my mums which I was going to bring up north when I got settled, Any way the season was in full swing and I was fed up of been the bag man on nights out lamping so asked my friend who offered me the acd cross if I could take it on trial for a month, which she was more than happy to do. She had ady's old acd dog breeze and had just bowed out of the lurcher scene. I can remember making the trip down past scotch corner to wales, I must admit the look of the dog going through a heavy malt didnt impress me at all, and when it stuck its head over the back seat on the way home of my battered puegeot 309 looking at each other through the rear view mirror I thought to myself what the feck have I done with its big pricked lugs stuck up! There was never any issues from the start with this dog and the months trial turned into 12 or so good years she had her qerks but I would not of changed her in any way. She certainly suited the land I hunted and only had one injury (a broken toe) in all her hunting life, out of all the dogs I have had so far she is my number one. 9 Quote Link to post

fielder1 2
I have a nearly 11 year old A.C.D. x small lurcher. She has been the most loyal dog I have ever owned. She has been obedient and easily trained, but occasionally a little resentful of other dogs. Socialisation is very important with these dogs. She has a high prey drive and is very game. I wish instead of a small lurcher, her dam had been a greyhound to give her more size and speed. I really hope to be able to replace her with an A.C.D. x greyhound. 1 Quote Link to post

If it was you mate I can honestly say you can handle/train a dog I was the person running the obedience that day were you took first place if I remember. You really impressed me and when you said that about your acd cross I never doubted you. As for being handsome as ugly as a sea pig 1 Quote Link to post

Neal 1,873
Until recently I worked three pure kelpies. However, I now only have two as my ten year old bitch was put down due to her temperament. She was the most one-man-dog I've ever known and never accepted my young son so they were kept permanently apart. Unfortunately, her fate was sealed last summer when the red mist descended as somebody tried to stroke her in my local wood. I hasten to add that my six year old bitch is extremely friendly and the fourteen year old male in my avatar is paricularly easy going. I've also ordered a replacement for the old fella from a litter which is due fairly soon. Goodonya Neal... Thanks Phil! I'll be picking him up around Easter so I'll invite you round for a look. I love the 'herding types',..either purebred, or as lurcher hybrids... Obviously they don't suit everyone, or tick all the boxes, but as roustabout rabbiting/mouchin dogs they sure suited me .. Neal 1,873
Not sure why my post came up quite like that...probably because my laptop has given up on me so I'm writing this on my wife's tablet. Quote Link to post
