neems 2,406
Tyson had a very extreme 1 dimensional style IMO. There are a lot of great boxers through history that would have made him look stupid even at his best. A lot wouldn't have made it passed round 3 with him.
gonetoearth 5,144
I watched the 1996 Tyson Holyfield fight on youtube. baw 4,360
Tyson was without doubt the most exciting boxer when I was growing up. At the build upto the fight you'd see this solid animal square upto guys head and shoulders above him and actually fear for there life's the tension was electric, it made you sit up to the early hours of the morning time and time again, even know you knew it would probably only last several minutes. He became the youngest heavy weight boxer of the world, I don't think there is many bad ones of them about. As for him having excuses, they aren't excuses, they are facts of life. I'm not a boxing purist or expert, I've very rarely followed boxing since. But I'd follow it again if his like was boxing now.
AKA-BRINDLE 879
bonecrusher smith took tyson the full 12 rounds and made tyson look average imo. tyson was a brawler but hollyfield was a better allround fighter. ali... best heavyweight ever. Yes average against bonecrusher smith...a trapped nerve in his neck was the excuse Tyson used...but to be fair while he was in jail Holyfield looked average agianst Bobby Czyz...a puffed up light heavyweight who Holyfield struggled against for 10 rounds...he looked very avaerage when he was put on his arse by a last minute replacement Bert Cooper...if Holyfield was such a superiour Boxer why did he resort to holding and using his head?...I wouldnt say Tyson was an all time 'great'...but he was a bright spark in an otherwise dull era...too many people judge him for the c**t he was outside the ring...as a Boxer i rated him highly "Tyson throws combinations i never saw before i was stunned i worked with Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard but im seeing from Tyson a three punch combination second to none, when have you seen a guy throw a right hand to the kidney, come up the middle with an uppercut then throw a left hook?"!...ANGELO DUNDEE Edited January 20, 2014 by AKA-BRINDLE
gnasher16 30,280
When talking about Bobby Czyz being a puffed up light heavyweight its easy to forget thats all Holyfield was,a puffed up light heavyweight who could of ruled the Cruiserweight division for as long as he liked....but like many before him the lure of the heavyweight division dictated the rest of his career.Tyson was a full bloodied heavyweight with the bone and substance of a heavyweight......Holyfield was a manufactured heavyweight who used his superior boxing skills and brain to defeat larger stronger opponents..... As boxing fans many people were excited by Tysons aura and the menace he brought to the ring.....but he was never involved in an exciting fight that swings back and forth like Holyfield was which is why personally id rather watch Holyfield all day long....his fights with Dwight Qawi were brilliant wars as were the first 2 Bowe fights.....maybe the fact Holyfield was used to having wars and Tyson wasnt is what made for the outcome of their fights against each other.

gnasher16 30,280
What i mean Bird is he was a NATURAL heavyweight....i think he fought most of his early career just shy of 16 stone but he had the frame, substance and natural strength of a heavyweight from day 1.....where Holyfield didnt......Holyfield started his career as a 12st 7 lb fighter, the last time Tyson was 12 stone he was probably about 9 years old
gonetoearth 5,144
The discipline involved to keep the wight on is almost as hard as getting wight off while training Holyfield perfected it allthough a small heavy he was very accomplished one in my opinion
fagaen 282
joe Louis was the best ever he was just a quiet guy so nobody remembers him because he wasn't so brash about who he was
keepdiggin 9,561
maybe Tyson was not involved in brawls because nobody could take a direct hit? None of us are experts so we'll never know.

Holyfield had told tyson in company whilst a light heavy he knew of his nonce activities and his god did.nt care for such a carry on, he had his number roids or not (was the little mini heart scare down to the roids?)....Douglas did mr im gonna rape ya mam and kill your kids Tyson with the olde Kirkland laing leg slap everytime he was just about to do his ff hop scotch move....f****d him up. He fought that fight bang on his weight and no tyson fan booked that fight even suggesting anthying was amiss....they did after but what happened in between is the bit that counts....he spewed when he got matched.
