A raised voice does the trick for me. ..depends what type of person you are imo...

I used to be the worlds worst for laying into a jukel...   It has taken me a lifetime to twig on to the fact, that,.whilst you must chastise a wayward cur for obvious unwanted or dangerous behaviou

All the dogs I have owned including my terriers have been very obedient ... I demand it from my dogs ?.. I hate unruly dogs that take telling two three four times to do something I like to be able to

ye i really see nothing wrong aslong as your not doing it over minor things serious thing that they need to know is a big no no then as smack is in order look how many of us were brought up with a clip round the ear hole if we did something wrong its the same thing im not saying beat it to within an inch of its life but a smack for doing wrong how many can actually say theyve never smacked there dog and i no theyll be a few come on n say i just tell it off and send it to its room if it naughty :D

dog does wrong, dog comes to you, you clout it, dog does wrong, dog comes to you, you clout it. dog does wrong, dog fooks off......the moral of this story is the man with the clout is often the one with the nervous dog that don't come back

The fact is each dogs different, but it's always best to work with the dogs mind rather than physical contact. Some peoples attitude to dog training is archaic.

A dog is your best mate built on trust.

one would think beating any animal meant to work for thee would be a no no . but times of old breakink then rebuilding the animal was a common occurance.some high driven animals spaniiels etc ,do seem to be able to take a firm approach seen not my cup of tea\ but hey every one to there own .scruffing and pinning would normally be a firm enough hand to the very most driven stubborn lurcher types every ones different and some similiar the aproach to the animals temperament ,sorts the chaff from the wheat .atb bunnys.

unless your there immediately when the indiscretion occurs then chastising of any sort will have a negative effect, it needs to learn by association so clarity is the key,
