Guest Frank
My whippet pup, seems to have a wee sore on her left foot, left toe, as seen below in the pic. She has had it for a good while now, it does not seem to bother her, she licks it from time to time. Its a small lump, a black crusty look about it, flakey in apperance. Sorry about the pic, not the clearest, hard to keep her still and my camera is not good at close ups. Any opinoins ect welcome. I dont think its nowt seriouse, as as i said, it does not seem to bother her, but it does not seem to want to go away.? Thanks, Frank.
Dawn B 212
Looks like a lick granuloma. They dont heal because the dog licks them, the skin gets tough and hard and it never heals properly. You can try putting bitter apple or similar on it, but if it gets wet, same thing will happen, it will get wet and the dog will lick it. they are a nightmare to get rid of. dawn. Guest Frank
Just looked it up and from the web site below, it does not sound like what she has got? She licks it, but only every now and then? http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/lick.html Frank.
Dawn B 212
Those are very severe on that link, I reckon it is, unless there is a tumour underneath it, my opinion only, if it were my dog, Id try to keep it dry, bandage it and use something like intrasite gel on it, see if it improves, if not Id take her to see what the Vet thinks. best of luck Frank. tyson 1
maybe shes jagged it on a thorn or something and got a wee infection?
Guest Frank
You could be right Tyson. As a few folks have said that. The lump, altough small, is hard.
Dawn B 212
Possibly a cyst Frank.
tyson 1
one of my dogs had a small lump on her ribcage a while ago and it was there for ages it was about the size of a malteser cut in half and it was quite hard , shes really lean and tight skinned so it stood out , it was a little flaky on top and it was there for ages and ages and it started to bug me everytime i saw it , so i disinfected a needle burst into it and sqeezed some white gunk out , it was just like a big spot quite a bit came out followed by a bit of blood , cleaned it up and now its all gone
MATTI 34
Like Tyson said if the lump has a bit of give and not too hard the muck is looking for a way out, a hot clean pin is as good as any way.
Guest curtislj
It could be ringworm Frank. It does appear like that on dogs and is not the same as cattle ringworm.Try some antifungal wash like Imaveral or if you can get it from someone, creosote, Not the subtitute stuff you get today as it wont work.Someone might have abit in th back of a shed or mayb a farmer. Its a very old remedy but it will work. cúagusgiorraí 57
I would say it is a small wound/cut. She is just cleaning it from time to time. Perhaps removing the scab. It should clear up. No harm having her lick it. If it seems filled, like was said, pop it with a clean needle, and rub with disinfectant. Keep away from ground with droppings/cow dung, so no infection settles. I wouldnt bandage it.
Guest Frank
Thanks folks . Its hard, their is no softness at all. I will take her to the vet and see what he says next week. Frank.
tyson 1
it will be hard cos it will be compressed so it obviously needs popped , disnfect a pin , heat it up and carefully pierce it and sqeeze out whats inside , if nothing comes out then just pop some sudocream on it or something like that , save a costly trip to the vets when you might not need to go
