Good evening chaps.

I have been offered a HW77k, a 1988 model. It's been with the same fella since 98 and can tell its been looked after.

My question is, what do I need to be thinking when I look at a rifle of this age? I wasn't looking at anything that old and it's just come up.

What would a fair price be for it? As I said its tidy and obviously been looked after.

Thanks in advance.

I don't really know about price but personally I'd rather have something that's been looked after from that vintage than a brand new one. They were properly screwed together back then.

The worst that you should be looking at is a service kit for around £45 and an easy DIY fit. If the price is sensible then go for it and enjoy.

My old boot of a 77 is about 1994, still cocks smoothly, still fires cleanly, has the wonderful Rekord trigger and despite years of neglect by previous owners still puts out over 10.46 ft lb energy, she needs rebluing and a service, but will continue to work well despite that not happening yet!

i picked up my 77 for £130 and it was in fair condition but if its is the [BANNED TEXT] rifle for you and shoots well £200 would be my top price , and at that age its runnng the 25mm piston which go for silly money on ebay . give it a good look over . you will know if its right for you

Mine is .22 and the finest spring air rifle I've ever owned and she's not an old girl by comparison. I've had her from new for four years just turned and this HW77 will out-match a .177 PCP for accuracy.

Just a beautiful rifle to own and shoot with.

Mine's from 1988 (ish) and is still as accurate as they come and doing 11.3 ft/lbs. As said, the worst you'll need to do is pay for a tune/ tuning kit. I'd also check it over a chrono if I were you, just to be sure.

I wouldn't worry to much about a mod, a '77 is long enough as is and the chances are that if you shoot a rabbit in the head then the noise of the impact will cause just as much alarm to those around it than the crack of the rifle.

I was out with a friend with my R10 and me with my HW77 the other day after pigeons, I found that although the '77 has a much louder muzzle rapport, with either after taking a shot, any others left scattered anyway, but still others came in.

Buy the gun and enjoy it!
