Bobo 135
Right here's the script,my mate has a Lurcher that broke her hock 4 1/2 months ago, he had it reset and in a splint and cage rested her for about three months,he then started light walking her and has in the last two or three weeks started taking her out with the push bike, fast trotting her beside the bike. She is doing about three or four miles no bother and shows no ill effects after it. What he wants to know is,has anyone had a dog with this injury and what is the next step for the bitch? oddser 79
if its not limping after road work feel the hock for any heat if none start let it free run it should be ok but are pron to arthritis in it depends if it was broke or just a displacement
sandymere 8,263
There's a multitude of bones/structures so a multitude of possible outcomes, I'd discuss with the vet that dealt with it as they have likely seen it a fair few times plus continue with the rehab taking it all step by step and cross my fingers. I've seen one go on to a good running career and another re-broke at the back of its first hare after the injury. Age etc will also have an impact.
Bobo 135
Thanks folks,it was a proper break. She is about two so still relatively young.
RossM 8,114
I know he'll be gagging to get going with her again, but I'd just sit this season out, light free running not hunting up etc, you can get supplements to help with arthritis etc and is it pinned? I read somewhere about pins moving when running and causing discomfort.
Bobo 135
No it never got pinned Ross, just set back into place. Has a slight kick to one side but seems strong enough the now, time will tell once she starts running again.

I'd forget this season if I was Rory, look forward to next, hear he's got a new pup
