Religion/god Given Rights..

Can anyone spell irony ?

No one tells him what to do, he lives by a fictional characters "commandments"

Fits the criteria anyway. I`ve been exposed to far more religious hypocrisy than most people, and this just smacks of more of the same.

As I suggested earlier, reasoned discussion with a blind zealot is impossible, and boring,, I`m out

head you an play your computer games with your zealots rake lol u havent ans my earlier q.typical atheist rhetoric Edited by frazdog

Religion was invented by very clever people, to further their own aims and to keep the common people in shackles, and discourage free thinking, all the main patriarch based religions are the best fair

One thing is fact when all looks lost and you have a millisecond to contemplate your life it's not god you think about or cry out for think about redemption from ... What enters your head for that bri

Growing up we was told theres 2 things a man doesnt have to justify......his faith or his football team ............for me only a complete ignoramus would mock another mans beliefs and ask him to jus

For me i always feel too on edge around churches/cathedrals etc....feels like everyones looking at me and i feel uncomfortable even though i know im there for the right reasons !..............Ive found being close to nature a beautiful thing,i dont think its a coincidence that in recent years the closest i felt to God was the closest i felt to nature that being a mad rambling week alone up in the Scottish Highlands in complete silence with nothing more than a passing bird in the sky for company......whenever im in need of a chat with the big man i find myself wandering to the most remote places possible not a building with people in.....and maybe im wrong for that, but it works for me.

You see to me ,,,that sounds more like you believe in Mother Nature ,,, and nothing to do with a "God",,,,, and I bet most lads on here can relate to that,, I know I can....

Why does it.....the fact i feel uncomfortable and cant concentrate in a church around other people......but i can feel comfortable and concentrate in remote peace and quiet is just the way i feel at ease ....................if i felt comfortable enough in Tescos thats where i would go.......mother nature as you put it.... is the tool i use to connect with God....not the tool itself.

" Really? Well that is just the kind of reply I would have expected from a christian  so, oh enlightened one, please tell me just what it is I dont have any idea about? Or is it perhaps that you take issue with my obvious dislike of a "religion" that is a made up tale, written down in a book by MEN not some divine being, but MEN. And please try to deny that it has not being the cause of mass suffering, death, and destruction for centuries, lets look at a little thing called the crusades perhaps, another jolly in the name of the one who died for our sins, I could go on , but I will allow you a little more rope to hang yourself with first :D over to you, follower of the dessert religion." A lot of "stuff" here. But I'll try to reply.

You don't seem to have any understanding about the Spanish Inquisition. You demonstrate this by comparing it to the NAZI's. The Inquisition's (there were more than simply the spanish one) accounted for an estimated 3,000- 5,000 deaths. Over four centuries that is. Many of the perpetrators of the Spanish version were not members of the Church, but civil employees. Your own BBC has done a piece on this. Perhaps you saw it and didn't believe it? Well if you do your own research you will be a little more ammendable to their presentation.

NAZI"s or Hitler as is more often blamed. Accounted for or 34 Million deaths in roughly six years.

Hardly a fair comparision wouldn't you say?

But for my part I'm prepared to apologize for the Church's role in the inquisitions.

Then you bring up the crusades. Again forceing me to think you are just spewing hateful rhetoric. But you can only play the cards in your hand right? So, are you speaking of the First, second, third, or fourth crusade. If only the Fourth, then we are in agreement. The first three were waged to protect pilgrims, journeying to the Holy land. You did know that right?

Enough about dark history. There is plenty of positive things that we can attribute to Religion. Missionary work, charities, education, healthcare. The list is quiet extensive.

You are right about the Bible being written by men, and perhaps woman. What bearing that has I am not sure. Everything we know is handed down by men, and woman who took the trouble to write down what they observed.

If the bible is the word of God, how many times has it been written, translated, re-written, re-translated, altered, doctored, adjusted, edited, readapted, readjusted, at the hands of man?

Who's got the original?

Science can't tell us what set the whole thing in motion, but most of these religious texts have spent more time in the hands of man being spun around and around. Books written at a time when the average age was 35, and when they thought the sun revolved around the earth. I mean am I seriously supposed to be believe that all the animals in the world lived a small stroll from Noah's house?

God may be the divine creator. It's the arseholes that have twisted his words that make me cynical about the true meaning.

God, if he exists, is the only one qualified to deal in absolutes. Mankind are c**ts and I don't trust them to tell me the truth about anything.

An idea of mine is that all people who are called to join the priesthood should have had a life before they do, or at least preferential entry to the seminary be given to those who have......IMHO only then will the public start to re-engage with the church.

You can't empathise with people who came and lay troubles at your door unless you have been round the block a bit yourself......it's a bit like a politician who has never had a real job.

All the best Christian's I have ever met have spent a bit of time wading about in the mire.

Just a thought

It's a good thought. Keeping the perverts, and sadist out would be another one.
